Bihar Man Marries 3 Women in 3 Years Without Divorcing, Arrested for Dowry Harassment

The CSR Journal Magazine

A man from Bihar’s Gopalganj district has been arrested for allegedly marrying three women within a span of three years without legally divorcing any of his previous wives. The accused, Pintu Barnwal, was taken into custody after his first and second wives submitted written complaints accusing him of deception, domestic violence and dowry harassment.

Allegations of Repeated Marriages and Harassment

According to police, the case came to light after the two women separately approached authorities, claiming Barnwal repeatedly entered into marriages for financial gain and later abandoned his wives after subjecting them to cruelty. They alleged that his family demanded cash, jewellery and other valuables, and that failure to meet these demands led to physical abuse and expulsion from the marital home.

Accused Denies Charges, Admits to Three Marriages

Responding to the allegations, Barnwal denied all accusations of dowry demand, violence and wrongdoing. He admitted that he had married three women but claimed that “circumstances forced” his decisions. Speaking to ANI, he insisted that no dowry was taken and said the allegations were fabricated. He blamed domestic issues and said his earlier marriages failed because his wives allegedly refused to care for his elderly mother.

Pintu Barnwal denied all charges of dowry, violence, and wrongdoing. He claimed that the accusations made against him are false and motivated. “Everything they have said is a lie regarding the dowry allegations. We have not taken even a single rupee from them,” Pintu said. “My mother is 60 years old. Neither of them even cooked food for two days. My mother and I fed them instead,” Barnwal alleged. “My mother is elderly and unwell, suffering from heart disease and diabetes. There was no one at home to take care of her. I couldn’t even cook. I was forced to marry,” he said.

Serious Counter-Claims by the Accused

Barnwal also made serious counter-allegations against his first wife, Khushboo Kumari, claiming she attempted to harm him and his mother. He dismissed allegations mentioned in the FIR, including claims of sexual violence, as false. Explaining his third marriage, he cited his mother’s poor health, saying he was left with no support at home.

Wives Reject Claims, Seek Strict Action

Khushboo Kumari strongly refuted Barnwal’s statements, alleging she was married in December 2022 and that her family gave substantial cash, jewellery and household items after repeated demands. She accused Barnwal of physical abuse and said she was thrown out of the house. She later learned he had married two other women without divorcing her.

“We got married on December 2, 2022, at Gauri Shankar Lounge. On December 3, I went to their house. After conflict and fighting, my father gave them Rs 3 lakh as a gift, along with a 20-gram necklace, a 15-gram ring, other jewellery, and household items,” she said.

Khushboo alleged that she was subjected to repeated torture after marriage. “I lived with Pintu at his in-laws’ house. He tortured me, beat me, and one day threw me out of the house,” she stated.

“The second wife has a 10-month-old baby, and the third wife has a one-month-old baby,” Khushboo said. “I filed a complaint. His mother, sister, and brother were arrested. After that, the case went to court,” she said.

Second Wife’s Statement

The second wife, Gudiya Kumari, said she was deceived into marriage and abandoned after Barnwal married a third woman without informing her. Both women accused Barnwal and his family of exploiting marriages for money and demanded strict punishment.

“I was the second wife of Pintu. After marrying me, he married another woman without telling me and without divorcing me,” she said. She said the matter escalated to the police and court after complaints were filed. “We went to the SP’s office. After his arrest, he got bail. The IO didn’t show the bail or stay order,” Gudiya alleged. “We want to know on what basis the bail was given,” she said. “He has ruined many girls’ lives. How many more girls will he harm?” she asked. “This all happened because of money. Every girl who comes, Pintu’s family demands jewellery. If it isn’t given, they torture her,” she alleged.

Police Action and Ongoing Probe

Following the complaints, police arrested Barnwal and produced him before a court, after which he was sent to jail. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and further action will be based on evidence and legal proceedings.
