The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has launched an ambitious initiative to bring modern education to rural areas. Digital libraries are being established in 11,350 gram panchayats in the first phase, enabling village youth to prepare for civil services and other competitive exams without traveling to urban centers for coaching.

High-Tech Facilities and Comprehensive Resources

Each digital library will be equipped with IT hardware worth Rs. 1.30 lakh, furniture costing Rs. 70,000, and books valued at Rs. 2 lakh. Students will have access to e-books, video lectures, audio lessons, quizzes, and approximately 20,000 digital educational resources. The total investment per library is Rs. 4 lakh, aimed at making education in villages both modern and accessible.

Phased Implementation Across the State

So far, books have been selected in 35 districts, including Lucknow, Amroha, Azamgarh, Banda, Ballia, Baghpat, Budaun, Bareilly, Bijnor, Chitrakoot, and others. Gram Pradhans and secretaries will manage the libraries, while Assistant Officers will monitor them regularly. This step is seen as a major effort to empower rural youth, enhance employment readiness, and strengthen India’s talent pool for the future.

Amit Kumar Singh, Director at Panchayati Raj, emphasized that these libraries will elevate education in rural areas and provide youth with digital skills necessary for competitive exams. The initiative aligns with the state’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, aiming to bridge the rural-urban education gap and equip students with the tools needed to succeed in national and state-level examinations.
