The CSR Journal Magazine

In a chilling incident late Sunday night, a 37-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother and younger brother before surrendering to police. The incident occurred at Sunkara Paddayya Street under Bhimavaram One Town Police limits between 1 AM and 3 AM.

The accused, identified as Gunupudi Srinivas, reportedly attacked his mother, Mahalakshmi (60), and brother, Raviteja (33), with a knife. Disturbingly, Srinivas later dialed the emergency helpline 112, confessed to the killings, and asked for instructions on how to surrender. Police arrived promptly and took him into custody without resistance.

Accused’s Mental Health Under Scrutiny

Authorities revealed that Srinivas has been struggling mentally following the death of his father during the COVID-19 pandemic. Police have sent him for a medical evaluation to determine his psychological state.

West Godavari Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi, DSP Jai Surya, and One Town CI Nagaraju visited the crime scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. The SP also inspected the house with the Clues Team and Dog Squad, directing officers to probe the matter thoroughly and ensure strict legal action.

Family Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

Srinivas’ sister, who resides in Bengaluru, is en route to Bhimavaram to file a formal complaint. Police confirmed that a case will be registered after recording her statement, and the investigation is ongoing.

While neighbors described the family as generally close-knit, police indicated that the accused had accused his mother and brother of mentally harassing him and claimed they often sided against him during family disputes.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the district, highlighting concerns over mental health and familial tensions, and authorities are urging anyone facing psychological distress to seek timely help.
