A devotee from Andhra Pradesh has donated a gold crown valued at Rs 1.03 crore to the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple during the celebrations of Guru Purnima, a festival important to followers of Sai Baba. This ceremonial occasion saw the crown, weighing 642 grams, being presented as Guru Dakshina by Malladi Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Nellore. The offering was made on the first day of the Guru Purnima festivities held at the temple, which attracts numerous devotees.

The crown, meticulously designed, features representations of the Dashavatara, depicting the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. This distinctive aspect of the crown sets it apart from other offerings. According to statements made by Rao, the crown was symbolically inspired by his belief that Sai Baba embodies the Navgraha, or the nine celestial deities in Hindu mythology.

In an interview with India Today TV, Rao expressed his sentiments, stating, “On the occasion of Guru Purnima, I am offering this Navgraha crown to Baba. It is valued at around Rs 1 crore. Sai Baba himself represents the Navgraha. I had the opportunity to serve and donate, so I offered it.” He elaborated that he views Sai Baba as an embodiment of multiple divine forms, which include Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma, Dattatreya, and Mother Shakti. For Rao, the offering is a profound expression of gratitude and devotion.

Significance of Guru Purnima for Devotees

Guru Purnima is considered a pivotal occasion for devotees, who traditionally present Guru Dakshina to Sai Baba, regarded by many as their spiritual guide. Goraksha Gadilkar, the CEO of the Shri Sai Baba Temple Trust, acknowledged the significance of this donation, thanking Rao for his generous contribution. The temple trust emphasised that events like Guru Purnima witness a substantial outpouring of gratitude from followers through such donations.

Rao’s dedication to the temple extends beyond this recent offering. He is noted to be a long-time devotee who makes several pilgrimages to Shirdi each year. His previous contributions to the temple trust have supported various charitable and social initiatives, including funding the Sai Baba hospital and facilities aimed at assisting devotees.

The gold crown presented by Rao stands among the most valuable donations made to the temple during this year’s Guru Purnima celebrations. These events consistently attract thousands of devotees from different parts of the country, all coming together to celebrate their faith and pay respects to Sai Baba.

Communities Unite in Devotion

The yearly festivities of Guru Purnima not only showcase individual acts of devotion but also highlight the communal spirit of the devotees, who journey from far and wide to partake in these celebrations. The presentation of the gold crown, along with the attendance of countless devotees, exemplifies the strong connection followers have with Sai Baba, reinforcing their faith in the spiritual leader.

This year’s celebrations include various rituals and events designed to honour Sai Baba, further galvanising the community spirit among attendees. The temple trust’s leadership continues to promote acts of devotion and service as core tenets of the temple’s mission, which align with the values espoused by Sai Baba himself.

The legacy of donations received during Guru Purnima, such as Rao’s remarkable offering, will no doubt contribute to the ongoing efforts of the Shri Sai Baba Temple Trust, enabling the organisation to maintain and enhance resources for devotees and charitable activities. As the celebrations unfold, the sense of unity among devotees plays a crucial role in the events, fostering a collective reverence for Sai Baba and his teachings.
