Afghanistan Conducts Airstrikes on ISIS Hideouts in Pakistan

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Afghan Defence Ministry has reported that its Air Force conducted a series of airstrikes overnight on ISIS hideouts located within Pakistan, specifically in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Ministry shared this development on social media on June 19, stating that these operations were executed as a defensive measure against alleged threats posed by ISIS activities in the region.

Details of the Airstrikes

The airstrikes primarily targeted specific sites in Balochistan, including the Gulistan area of Qila Abdullah District and the Shakar Ab Jungle Gardi area in Chagai District. The Defence Ministry asserted that these locations acted as bases for ISIS militants and other groups opposing Afghanistan. By focusing on these areas, the Afghan authorities aimed to disrupt the operational capabilities of these hostile actors.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the operation included a targeted strike on an ISIS-Khorasan facility in the Qamber Khel area of Orakzai Agency. This facility was reportedly frequented by prominent leaders within the group. The Defence Ministry’s statement emphasised that the operation had been highly effective, with all designated high-value targets allegedly struck successfully.

Following the strikes, the Defence Ministry reiterated its stance on national security, declaring that Afghanistan would not tolerate any threats to its stability. The operation was portrayed as part of a broader strategy to bolster the country’s defensive measures against external insurgent threats.

Afghanistan’s Security Policy Emphasis

The Afghan Defence Ministry’s recent actions reflect a significant shift in its security policy. It has made clear its commitment to employing all available military resources to neutralise perceived threats. Such a stance underscores the Ministry’s determination to maintain stability and security within its borders.

In the aftermath of the airstrikes, the Ministry underscored that the country is prepared to take further military action if necessary. This proactive approach aims to mitigate any potential risks that could emerge from extremist groups operating in neighbouring territories.

The statement by the Defence Ministry concluded with an assurance that Afghanistan would use its capabilities to thoroughly guard against external dangers. This reaffirmed commitment resonates with the Ministry’s objective to ensure the nation’s sovereignty and integrity is safeguarded.
