Actors Discuss Possibility of The Devil Wears Prada 3

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actors Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt have expressed their interest in reprising their roles for a potential third film in the series, The Devil Wears Prada. In a recent interview with People, the trio outlined two pivotal conditions that would need to be met before they would agree to participate in another sequel.

Meryl Streep, aged 76, emphasised that a strong script is essential, stating, “The script.” Emily Blunt, 43, echoed this sentiment, remarking, “A good script. It’s all about the script.” Furthermore, Anne Hathaway, 43, mentioned that all parties involved would need to agree to participate, saying, “Everybody has to say yes.” Blunt added that the original core cast, referred to as “the core four,” must include Stanley Tucci, who is married to her sister, Felicity Blunt.

Streep lightened the conversation by joking, “They have to be alive,” referencing the importance of the principal cast members’ continued availability.

Reflections on Returning to Their Roles

In the ongoing discussion, Hathaway shared her thoughts on revisiting the character of Andy Sachs after nearly two decades. She reflected on her considerable personal growth, noting how different her life is now compared to when she first portrayed the character as a 22-year-old. Hathaway stated, “I felt so lost when I was 22, which really worked for the character,” emphasising her changes since that time.

Hathaway spoke about her marriage to Adam Shulman, which has lasted for 17 years, and their two children, revealing a sense of fulfilment in her life. She described her current phase as “much more complete and whole,” highlighting her transformation since the original film was released.

Streep offered her take on revisiting her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, describing the experience as “kind of easy.” She mentioned that actors maintain a connection with their characters over time, stating, “I liked discovering (Miranda) again,” indicating her enthusiasm for reprising the role.

Collaboration and New Additions to the Cast

The upcoming film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, sees the return of the original cast and is directed by David Frankel, with the script penned by Aline Brosh McKenna. Alongside the returning stars like Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt, the sequel features new actors such as Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, and Lucy Liu.

Fans can also expect to see familiar faces from the first film, including Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman, adding to the anticipated nostalgia of the sequel. This upcoming instalment aims to rekindle the charm of the original film while bringing in new elements to engage both older and newer audiences.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to release theatrically on May 1, 2026, and its development has generated excitement among fans who have followed the storyline since the original was released. The prospects for the third film remain speculative, contingent upon the fulfilment of the cast’s conditions for participation.
