Punjab Cabinet Ministers Lal Chand Kataruchak and Laljit Singh Bhullar visited the family of Gurnam Singh, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Punjab Police, who was tragically killed along with home guard Ashok Kumar on February 22. The bodies of Singh and Kumar were discovered at a checkpost in Adhian Village, located two kilometers from the Pakistan border.

Suspects Apprehended

Authorities have apprehended three suspects linked to the incident. The individuals, identified as Ranjit Singh, 19, Inderjit Singh, 21, and Dilwar Singh, 19, are alleged to have been motivated by a promise of 20,000 rupees from handlers based in Pakistan. Initial investigations indicate that the murders may have been orchestrated with the involvement of these foreign operatives.

Government Assures Full Support

During the meeting with the bereaved family, Minister Kataruchak stated that the Punjab government is committed to providing unwavering support in this painful situation. He assured them that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would also make an effort to meet the victim’s family soon. Kataruchak described the killing of Singh and Kumar as a cowardly act against the police force and, more significantly, an affront to the peace of Punjab.

The minister emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifice made by Singh and Kumar and vowed that those responsible would face severe penalties under the law. Bhullar expressed appreciation for the efficient work of the Punjab Police, noting that all suspects had been apprehended and highlighted the importance of law enforcement in maintaining order.

Further condemning the alleged involvement of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in destabilizing the region, Bhullar urged the youth of Punjab to remain vigilant against such malefactions. He reminded them of their heritage linked to the teachings of esteemed gurus and the valor of past martyrs. Additionally, Bhullar criticized various opposition political parties, including the Congress, BJP, and Shiromani Akali Dal, for their responses to the recent incident, which included questioning the circumstances surrounding the death of one of the accused, Ranjit Singh, during a police encounter.

Kataruchak asserted that the opposition’s actions reflect a desire to engage in political maneuvering amid the government’s success in combating crime and maintaining public safety in a border state like Punjab. He suggested that these parties inadvertently contribute to efforts aimed at disrupting the state’s peace and undermining the morale of the police force.
