An 18-year-old youth, his father, and a 19-year-old friend were reportedly assaulted and paraded naked at gunpoint in the Sarsuna area of Kolkata. This incident took place on October 25, following an alleged encounter where the youth was seen kissing his 13-year-old girlfriend. The situation escalated when a relative of the girl’s family witnessed the act and informed her parents, leading to the subsequent assault.

According to police reports, the two boys were captured by the girl’s family and taken to their home in Khudiram Pally, where they were subjected to physical violence. The father of the 18-year-old was summoned to the location, where he too was assaulted. The father later claimed that he was given horrific choices regarding his son’s fate, including options to shoot or stab him.

The father alleged that he was threatened with a knife heated on a gas stove by the girl’s mother, who insisted he take action against his son. Local witnesses reported that the assailants were armed and intimidated anyone who attempted to intervene, creating an atmosphere of fear in the community.

Police Response and Legal Action

Following the father’s complaint, police in Sarsuna initiated a case against the accused, citing multiple charges including attempted murder, gang assault, wrongful confinement, abduction, extortion, criminal intimidation, and violations of the Arms Act due to illegal firearm possession. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kunal Aggarwal confirmed that the three victims were forced to parade naked for approximately 50 metres in a public lane, allegedly under the threat of firearms.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, police have reportedly not recovered any weapons from the scene. Authorities are currently in the process of collecting CCTV footage to gather more evidence related to the incident. The police have stated that they are taking the matter seriously and are working diligently to apprehend all individuals involved.

As the investigation unfolds, the police are facing scrutiny regarding their response to the incident. The local community has expressed concerns about the safety and security of the area, particularly in light of the alleged involvement of politically connected individuals in the assault.

Community Reaction and Protests

The incident has sparked significant outrage among local residents, leading to protests against the accused and the police’s perceived inaction. On the following Monday, demonstrators vandalised the home of the alleged assailants, demanding accountability and justice for the victims. Community members have voiced frustrations over the situation, claiming that the main accused may have political backing, which could potentially hinder the investigation.

In response to these allegations, the Trinamool Congress has categorically denied any political connections to the accused, labelling the actions taken against the victims as “dastardly.” The party has called for a thorough investigation into the matter, emphasising the need for justice and the protection of vulnerable individuals in society.

The situation remains tense in Sarsuna, with ongoing discussions about the implications of the incident for community safety and the integrity of local law enforcement. As the investigation continues, both police and community leaders are under pressure to ensure that justice is served and that such acts of violence do not recur in the future.
