The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Minister Chirag Paswan, currently provided with Z-category security, has reportedly received threats indicating he could be killed by terrorists. This alarming communication was brought to light on Tuesday by his office, which has urged for enhanced protection and an inquiry by the Home Ministry.

The ominous message was unsigned and contained direct threats to Paswan’s life, asserting that he would be targeted by “hardcore terrorists.” This communication included two mobile numbers, which were also documented in a letter addressed to Home Secretary Govind Mohan.

In the letter, Alok Kumar Singh, Additional Private Secretary to Paswan, expressed serious concerns about the threat, emphasizing the need for immediate action to secure the minister’s safety. The letter described the content of the threat as highly alarming, raising significant apprehensions about Paswan’s security.

Political Context and Controversies

Paswan’s remarks were made in response to inquiries about his opposition to a sub-quota for the most deprived sections within Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. During discussions with journalists, he highlighted his role as a unifier among various communities, suggesting that the government must account for all groups’ interests.

Paswan’s Vision for Caste Relations

Chirag Paswan articulated his belief that protecting the interests of Scheduled Castes and Tribes should not result in the marginalisation of upper castes. He stated that it was the responsibility of the administration to address the concerns of all social segments.
