Uttar Pradesh Teacher Allegedly Twists Class 8 Student’s Arm Leading To Her Death

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 13-year-old Class 8 student in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, has died following an incident where her teacher reportedly twisted her arm after she complained about cheating during an examination. The event reportedly took place on August 20, when the victim, identified as the daughter of Umesh Dixit, returned home with severe pain and swelling in her arm. Medical examinations later revealed internal tissue damage, nerve rupture, and blood clotting.

After the incident, the girl initially received care from a local doctor in Shahabad, who diagnosed her condition and indicated that the treatment would be costly. Due to financial limitations, the family first sought assistance from the police before transferring her to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad on August 26, seeking more advanced medical treatment.

Despite the family’s efforts, including securing a loan to fund her hospitalisation, the girl’s condition deteriorated. Reports indicate that she succumbed to her injuries on August 30, ten days post-incident. Relatives had advised the family to move her to a private facility due to the worsening health situation.

Allegations Against the Teacher

The incident reportedly stemmed from a confrontation between the victim and another student over a request to view her examination paper. Following this, the student approached assistant teacher Rajendra Kumar Gangwar to lodge a complaint regarding the cheating incident. Allegedly, instead of addressing her concerns, Gangwar grabbed her arm and twisted it, causing the serious injuries.

Umesh Dixit, the victim’s father, stated that when he arrived at the school after learning about the incident, the teacher had assured him that the girl would receive appropriate medical treatment. However, he later noted that the school did not follow up on her condition, raising concerns about accountability.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted on the deceased to ascertain the exact cause of her death and to investigate whether the injuries sustained were indeed responsible for her decline. The post-mortem report is currently pending and will play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation.

Response from Authorities

In light of the tragic incident, the Basic Education Department initiated an inquiry. Dr Sunil Singh, the Block Education Officer, visited the school to gather information regarding the allegations presented by the family. Following the inquiry, both the in-charge teacher, Akshat, and assistant teacher Gangwar were suspended while the investigation is underway.

The police have confirmed that a detailed investigation is being conducted based on Umesh Dixit’s complaint. They have stated that further legal action will be determined by the evidence that emerges from the inquiry and post-mortem findings.

This case has raised significant concerns about student safety and the responsibilities of educators in such environments. The outcomes of the investigation and the post-mortem report are expected to hold critical information regarding the events leading up to the young student’s death and potential accountability for those involved.
