Mirzapur: The Movie Set for Rs 20 Crore Box Office Opening

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mirzapur: The Movie appears poised for a substantial box office opening, with reports indicating potential earnings of Rs 20-25 crore nett in India before its release. This projection is backed by impressive advance booking numbers, which opened on Monday. According to Sacnilk, the film has already surpassed 20,000 ticket sales across major national multiplex chains.

As of the latest figures, Mirzapur: The Movie has sold 26,398 tickets across 2,971 shows nationwide, resulting in an advance gross of Rs 83.67 lakh. Including block seat bookings, this amount rises to Rs 1.9 crore in merely a few hours. This surge in ticket sales underscores a significant interest in the film.

Comparative Success Levels and Audience Engagement

At its current pace, Mirzapur: The Movie is reportedly outpacing recent releases, such as Awarapan 2, which featured Emraan Hashmi. This comparison highlights the film’s robust momentum as it approaches its release date. Additionally, the platform BookMyShow has registered substantial user interest, with over 15,000 users showing intent to view the film in just the past 24 hours.

In a notable display of demand, over 1,030 tickets were sold during a single hour between 10 and 11 am on Monday. By August 31, ticket sales on BookMyShow alone had exceeded 17,000, with a total of 17,170 tickets sold. These figures suggest that the audience is not merely curious but actively purchasing tickets in advance.

Mirzapur has a deeply committed fan base, a factor that likely contributes to these strong initial sales. First launched on Prime Video in 2018, the franchise has developed a substantial following among viewers.

Franchise Popularity and Anticipation Ahead of Release

The streaming success of Mirzapur has established a foundation of viewer engagement that may translate into box office success. Season 2 reportedly garnered around 32.5 million views, followed by nearly 30.8 million for Season 3. These figures position Mirzapur amongst the most-watched Indian web series, which bodes well for its theatrical release.

The film has been awarded an A (adults-only) rating by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Industry experts speculate that this classification may not hinder its box office performance, given that the franchise has historically attracted viewers seeking more mature, candid narratives that differ from standard television content.

Importantly, Mirzapur: The Movie is not merely a continuation of the series but introduces a new storyline while retaining beloved characters. Familiar faces, including Pankaj Tripathi as Akhandanand ‘Kaleen Bhaiya’ Tripathi, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Divyenndu Sharma as Munna Tripathi, are back, alongside other notable cast members such as Rasika Dugal and Shriya Pilgaonkar.

The film is directed by Gurmmeet Singh, with Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar producing it under Excel Entertainment in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. Set to release in theatres on September 4, the film’s anticipation continues to build as its opening day approaches.
