In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed to death by his father. The incident occurred in the Sagarpur area of southwest Delhi on Saturday afternoon. This comes following a disagreement over the son’s wish to play in the rain. As the incident came to light the police arrested the 40-year-old accused father. Furthermore, the police recovered the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, from the crime scene.

Dispute Over Rain Play Turns Deadly

According to reports, the incident occurred when the young boy, excited by the rain, insisted on stepping outside to play. His father reportedly objected, but the child persisted. According to the preliminary investigation, the father, in a fit of uncontrollable rage, grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the boy in the chest, near his left ribs.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said, “The child didn’t listen to his father’s objections. In a sudden act of rage, the father picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed him.”

Father Rushed the Boy to Hospital

After the attack, the father reportedly realized the gravity of his actions. He rushed the injured child to Dada Dev Hospital around 1:30 PM. Unfortunately, doctors declared the boy ‘brought dead’ on arrival.

The hospital staff informed the local police, who reached the hospital immediately. The accused, a daily-wage labourer, was taken into custody. A case of murder has been registered against him, and the weapon has been seized from their residence in Mohan Block.

Surviving Siblings in Trauma

The boy was the third of four children, all of whom lived with their father in a cramped, one-room rented accommodation. Their mother passed away a few years ago, leaving the father as the sole guardian.

The victim’s sister has demanded strict legal action against their father, stating, “He used to hit us whenever he was drunk. My brother just wanted to enjoy the rain like any child would, but my father got angry and stabbed him. He must be punished.”

Another sibling claimed he tried to intervene during the incident. “My father was drunk and angry. We pleaded with him, but he didn’t listen. Suddenly, he stabbed my brother,” the boy said, still in shock.

Police Probe Underway

Meanwhile, the police are reviewing CCTV footage and have begun speaking with neighbours and possible witnesses. So far, no prior criminal record has been found for the accused. Investigators are also trying to locate extended family members who can take custody of the remaining children.

A senior police official said, “We are trying to understand the full context. One child witnessed the stabbing, and the others were nearby. Everyone is deeply traumatized.”

Authorities have stated that the name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the surviving minors.

Community in Shock

The tragic incident has left the local community in shock. Neighbours described the family as financially struggling and the father as often stressed and visibly agitated, especially after drinking.

The three surviving siblings are now in the care of child welfare officials. Police and social workers are coordinating efforts to provide them with psychological support and explore long-term care options.

Authorities have confirmed that a full forensic inspection of the home has been conducted. The exact sequence of events leading up to the stabbing is still being pieced together. Meanwhile, the accused remains in custody as police continue their interrogation.
