The EducationWorld India School Rankings (EWISR) 2026-27, a prominent annual survey, has been unveiled. Conducted by EducationWorld in collaboration with AZ Research Partners Pvt. Ltd., the survey ranks 4,500 schools across India based on a comprehensive nationwide study involving 18,000 participants. This extensive survey, now in its 20th year, encompasses feedback from parents, educators, and school professionals across 34 cities and 22 states.

The methodology of the survey involves evaluating schools on 14 to 15 parameters of educational excellence, making it a highly detailed assessment. Schools are classified into various categories, including Day, Boarding, and various specialisations. This makes the EWISR the world’s largest survey dedicated to school rankings, reflecting a robust approach towards educational quality assessment.

The ranking system consists of multiple main and sub-categories, allowing for differentiated evaluation of day schools, boarding institutions, and international schools. Each school is assessed not only on its overall performance but also on specific excellence parameters, providing a rich source of information for parents and stakeholders.

Recognition of Top Schools

This year, notable institutions have been elevated to the newly introduced Ivy League category, acknowledging schools that consistently perform at the highest levels. Schools in this category receive a common #1 rank, along with star ratings, to distinguish their performance. Among the top contenders are Inventure Academy in Bengaluru and Vasant Valley School in Delhi, both of which have been recognised for their emphasis on academic excellence and teacher welfare.

Additional Categories and Top Rankings

In the latest rankings, some outstanding Day Schools have been recognised, including Springdales School in Delhi, which has achieved the top rank in the Co-ed Day School category. For Boarding Schools, both Sarala Birla Academy and Welham Boys School in Dehradun have received top honours. Other categories such as Vintage Legacy Schools have also highlighted notable institutions, including St. Michael’s High School in Patna and St. Mary’s School in Pune.

The annual rankings assess 4,500 schools across 34 cities and 22 states, based on a nationwide survey of 18,000 respondents, including parents, teachers, educators and counsellors.

The rankings evaluate schools across 14 parameters of educational excellence, with legacy institutions assessed on an additional alumni-quality parameter.

Expanded Categories and Assessment

EWISR 2026-27 ranks schools across three broad categories and 29 sub-categories, covering day schools, boarding schools and international schools. It also recognises government institutions, special-needs schools, budget private schools and philanthropic schools.

The evaluation parameters include academic reputation, faculty competence, individual attention, leadership, curriculum and pedagogy, co-curricular and sports education, community service, parental involvement, teacher development, value for money, student well-being, infrastructure and special-needs education.

Ivy League Category

The Ivy League category, introduced in 2025, recognises schools that have consistently performed strongly across key parameters over multiple years. All schools in this category receive a common No. 1 ranking, with one to five stars used to distinguish their performance.

The five-star Ivy League schools for 2026-27 include Inventure Academy and Vasant Valley School among day schools; Daly College and Greenwood High in the day-cum-boarding category; Mayo College among boarding schools; and Dhirubhai Ambani International School and Oberoi International School among international day schools.

Jayshree Periwal International School and Harrow International School are recognised in the international day-cum-boarding category.

Top-Ranked Schools

Among the top day schools, Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi, has been ranked No. 1 in the co-educational category. The Sanskaar Valley School, Bhopal, leads the day-cum-boarding category, while Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, and St. John’s High School, Chandigarh, top the girls’ and boys’ day-school categories respectively.

Sarala Birla Academy, Bengaluru, and Welham Boys School, Dehradun, feature among the leading boys’ boarding schools. Ecole Globale International Girls School, Dehradun, tops the girls’ boarding category, while The Assam Valley School leads co-educational boarding schools.

Recognition Across Special Categories

The rankings also highlight leading vintage and legacy institutions, including St. Michael’s High School, Patna; St. Mary’s School, Pune; La Martiniere Boys College, Lucknow; The Lawrence School, Lovedale; and Woodstock School, Mussoorie.

Among international schools, Aditya Birla World Academy, Mumbai, Greenwood High International, Bengaluru, and Mussoorie International School feature at the top of their respective categories.

Army Public School, Delhi Cantt, Rashtriya Military School, Bengaluru, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16-D, Chandigarh, lead selected government-school categories.

Focus on Continuous Improvement

EducationWorld founder-editor Dilip Thakore said the rankings aim to encourage schools to continuously improve learning outcomes while providing parents with detailed information to support school-selection decisions.

AZ Research Partners founder-director Shubra Mishra said the survey was expanded to 18,000 respondents across 34 cities and 22 states. The research used structured questionnaires and multiple response formats, with measures intended to minimise potential bias.

The EWISR 2026-27 rankings seek to provide a comprehensive overview of India’s school education landscape while encouraging institutions to improve educational quality and student outcomes.

Moreover, the survey has recognised schools in various other categories, including special needs and budget private institutions. For example, The Aditya Birla Integrated School in Mumbai received accolades as a leading Special Needs School, while Muni International School in Delhi has been distinguished in the budget category. This comprehensive overview illustrates the diversity of recognised schools and the range of educational options available across the country.

The survey aims not only to provide a ranking but also to assist parents in making informed decisions regarding school selection. It aims to set benchmarks for all participating schools and encourages them to strive for educational excellence and improved learning outcomes.
