The CSR Journal Magazine

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a heartfelt message on Saturday, celebrating his son Nandil’s graduation with a law degree from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru. Sarma posted a photograph on X, showing Nandil receiving his degree from Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, and expressed his pride, stating, “Today, I was simply a proud dad.”

Reflecting on the moment, Sarma mentioned that witnessing his son’s achievement evoked many memories. He recalled the time when Nandil decided to take a year off to prepare for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The Chief Minister admitted that he had concerns but ultimately recognised his son’s determination and belief in himself.

He noted, “I still remember when he first told Riniki and me that he wanted to take a year off to prepare for CLAT. The father in me had a few questions and, admittedly, a few worries too. But he knew what he wanted, believed in himself, and gave it his all.” Nandil’s efforts paid off, as he secured an All India Rank of 40 in CLAT, a testament to his commitment and hard work.

Lessons Learned from Parenting

Sarma further reflected on the journey of parenthood, stating, “We spend years guiding our children, only to discover just how much they teach us along the way.” He expressed immense pride in Nandil’s accomplishments and encouraged him to pursue his next chapter in life with confidence.

The Chief Minister concluded his message by saying, “Today, my heart is full. So proud of you, Nandil. Go write your next chapter.” His words resonated with many, highlighting the emotional bond between a parent and child during significant life milestones.

This graduation not only marks a personal achievement for Nandil but also serves as an inspiration for others, showcasing the importance of perseverance and self-belief in the pursuit of one’s goals.

CJI Surya Kant Addresses Graduates on Importance of Justice

During the 34th annual convocation at NLSIU Bengaluru, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant addressed the graduating law students, urging them to uphold justice and defend liberty. He emphasised the need for legal education to extend beyond mere academic learning, encouraging students to engage with diverse perspectives.

According to the news agency PTI, CJI Kant stated, “The purpose of legal education extends beyond learning the principles of criminal or constitutional law; it rests in the invigorating experience of encountering those who see the world differently than we do.” His remarks highlighted the significance of understanding various viewpoints in the legal profession.

He also remarked on the challenges faced in the legal field, stating, “The legal profession is not for the faint of heart. It demands not only the mastery of statutes and precedent but also the courage to defend what is just, and the humility to listen to voices that are often unheard.” This call to action aimed to inspire graduates to approach their future careers with a sense of responsibility and integrity.

As he concluded his address, CJI Kant expressed hope for the graduates, stating, “As you step out into the world, know that the nation looks to you—not just as practitioners of law but as heralds of hope. May your careers be distinguished, your endeavours impactful and your contributions everlasting.” His words served as a reminder of the vital role that new lawyers will play in shaping the future of justice in India.
