A tragic incident in Hyderabad’s Gajularamaram area has shocked the city, where a 35-year-old woman allegedly killed her two sons before taking her own life. The event unfolded on Thursday while her husband was reportedly away at work.
The woman, identified as Tejaswini Reddy, reportedly attacked her sons 11-year-old Arshith Reddy and 9-year-old Ashish Reddy with a coconut-cutting knife, commonly used for tender coconuts. After the brutal act, she is believed to have jumped from the fifth floor of her residential apartment, dying instantly.
The elder son was declared dead at the scene, while the younger succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. The children’s bodies were discovered by their father upon his return home. According to police officials, both boys sustained severe head injuries.
Note Reveals Longstanding Emotional and Physical Turmoil
A six-page suicide note was recovered by the Jeedimetla Police from the residence, shedding light on Tejaswini’s mental state. She reportedly expressed feeling overwhelmed by her deteriorating health and that of her sons, both of whom inherited a chronic eye condition. The disorder required frequent medical attention and the use of eye drops every four hours something that had become physically and emotionally exhausting for the mother.
She described the burden as unbearable, not only due to the constant care involved but also the emotional toll it took on the family. The note also indicated ongoing marital disputes. According to police, Tejaswini mentioned being verbally abused by her husband during arguments, including statements like “Die if you want,” which allegedly pushed her over the edge.
Family and Social Isolation
Tejaswini had been living in the apartment with her family for the past four years. Her husband is reportedly the president of the building’s residential society. Despite this, neighbours told investigators that Tejaswini rarely interacted with others and often kept to herself. Her isolation, combined with mounting family tensions and health concerns, painted a troubling picture of prolonged stress.
A police official familiar with the case stated that the woman’s mental condition had been unstable and she had been struggling silently for a long time. Former acquaintances and residents of the building described her as reserved and visibly distressed in recent months.
Police Investigation Underway
Jeedimetla Station House Officer G. Mallesh confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is ongoing. Authorities are now examining the circumstances surrounding the tragedy to understand whether any negligence or external pressure contributed to the incident.
The Telangana police have underscored the need to explore the mental health aspect of the case, given the detailed suicide note and the extreme nature of the act.
