“Will Dump Mamata Banerjee’s Syndicate in Bay of Bengal”: Amit Shah

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged to dismantle what he describes as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “syndicate,” which he claims has caused considerable distress to the people of West Bengal. Speaking at a rally in Kulti on April 21, he emphasised that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would eliminate this alleged corruption if elected.

During his address, Shah accused the syndicate of monopolising essential materials such as cement, bricks, and sand, insisting that the public is compelled to pay them for these resources. He asserted that the BJP intends to remove these corrupt elements from positions of power, vowing to “dump” them into the Bay of Bengal.

This statement was part of a broader critique of the current administration, where Shah pointed fingers at Mamata Banerjee over accusations of shielding illegal immigrants. He indicated that the BJP’s focus for the upcoming elections would be centred on eliminating infiltrators from the state.

BJP’s Promises Ahead Of Elections

Amit Shah reiterated several promises made by the BJP in the lead-up to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections. He assured that a BJP government would implement the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission for all government employees. Furthermore, he stated that beginning in June, ₹3,000 would be deposited into the bank accounts of eligible women and unemployed youth on the first of each month.

Additionally, Shah pledged financial support for pregnant women, stating that ₹21,000 would be allocated for the care of each child. He also affirmed that a BJP government would introduce a 33 per cent reservation in government jobs for women and offer free bus travel for women starting June 1.

Shah’s election promises reflect a focus on social welfare, specifically aimed at women and youth. His remarks highlighted the BJP’s commitment to improving the economic conditions of these demographics in West Bengal.

Uniform Civil Code Proposal

Another key promise made by Amit Shah involved the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in West Bengal if the BJP comes to power. He suggested that this measure would address certain practices he views as problematic, including polygamy. Shah claimed that under a BJP government, such practices would no longer be tolerated.

The UCC proposal signifies the BJP’s intent to create uniformity in civil laws applicable to all citizens, regardless of their religion or community. Shah’s assertions suggest that the BJP believes this move will have broad support in the state.

The call for a UCC aligns with the party’s long-standing agenda and is expected to be a critical talking point as the elections approach. This announcement was made in the context of the upcoming polling set for April 23 and 29, with the results to be counted on May 4.
