BJP leader’s convoy attacked by TMC-backed goons?

Suvendu Adhikari was returning to Medinipur after attending a public meeting in Purulia on Saturday. Following the incident, he immediately turned his car around, went to the Chandrakona Road police outpost, and sat down on the floor in front of the outpost in-charge’s office. The BJP leader stated that he would not leave until the miscreants were arrested. Although the outpost in-charge asked Suvendu to file a written complaint, the Leader of the Opposition refused to end his dharna.

Trinamool Congress denies allegations

However, Block Trinamool President Biswajit Sarkar has dismissed Suvendu Adhikari’s allegations. He said, “There was no attack on Mr. Adhikari’s car. A few Trinamool workers and supporters were chatting at a tea stall in front of the regional office. BJP supporters arrived there to welcome the Leader of the Opposition and started shouting slogans against Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee in front of the Trinamool workers. The Trinamool workers responded with counter-slogans. The Leader of the Opposition’s security guards then dispersed everyone. There was no attack.”

Paschim Medinipur District Trinamool President Sujoy Hazra also accused the Leader of the Opposition of staging a drama. He said, “The people in the villages are angry with the BJP over the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) issue. The common people of the village protested.”

Suvendu Adhikari sends legal notice to Mamata Banerjee over Coal Scam charge

Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari on Friday sent a legal notice to chief minister Mamata Banerjee after she made allegation against him and Union home minister Amit Shah over coal smuggling case. Adhikari demanded Mamata to prove the allegations made by her within 72 hours, adding that failure to do so would compel him to initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings for defamation.

The legal notice comes after Mamata Banerjee publicly alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Suvendu Adhikari were involved in the alleged coal scam, claiming that money from the scam was routed to Amit Shah through Adhikari. The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing a public gathering amid protests against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid in Kolkata’s I-PAC office on Thursday.

In a post shared on X, Adhikari said that the Chief Minister’s allegations were made in a “desperate attempt to divert attention” from the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation. He added that the claims were defamatory, politically motivated, and damaging to public discourse, and said that he would pursue legal remedies if evidence was not produced within the deadline.

“Today, CM Mamata Banerjee, in a desperate attempt to divert attention from an ongoing ED investigation, made absolutely baseless defamatory allegations against me, linking me to an ‘alleged’ coal scam alongside the Hon’ble Union Home Minister. These reckless statements, laced with personal insults, were made publicly without any shred of evidence. Such unsubstantiated claims not only tarnished my reputation but also undermine the dignity of public discourse. Today, through my Advocate, I have served a Legal Notice demanding that she provide all purported evidence within 72 hours. If she fails to do so, I will pursue appropriate Civil and Criminal actions for Defamation,” Adhikari wrote in an X post.
