Kanpur Police have informed a court that Subrat Minocha allegedly instructed one of the accused, Vishal Gautam, to implicate his wife, Shalu, in the murder of his father, businessman Vineet Minocha. This claim was part of a four-point response submitted by the police to counter earlier statements and evidence linking Shalu to the crime.

Despite these developments, Shalu remains in custody, and the police are seeking a prompt hearing regarding her potential release, although they have not formally cleared her of involvement in the case.

Details of the Allegations

Vishal Gautam, a former employee of Vineet Minocha, is alleged to have carried out the attack that resulted in the businessman’s death. Initially, it was claimed that Shalu had instructed Vishal to murder her father-in-law. However, police maintain that Subrat directed Vishal to make this allegation against Shalu.

Additional testimony from a security guard suggests that Shalu may have facilitated Vishal’s entry into the family’s residential complex by using the name “Shubham”, a pseudonym chosen because Vineet had a negative opinion of Vishal and Subrat wished to keep him unaware of the visitor’s presence.

Police reports indicate that Vishal was summoned to the residence under the pretext of bringing drinks and a traditional flower garland, known as a gajra. According to the police, Vishal was told by Shalu that she would provide him with a key to the house. Instead, Subrat is said to have arranged for Vishal to obtain a duplicate key through a local vendor in Kanpur’s Gumti No. 5 area and instructed him to place responsibility on Shalu.

The police investigation further highlights communications between Vishal and Shalu using a newly activated Jio phone number. Authorities assert that Subrat provided this number to Shalu and directed Vishal to contact her through this line. This network of calls is currently being scrutinised as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder.

Subrat’s Involvement and Arrest

Subrat Minocha was arrested after initially shifting blame onto Shalu but subsequently accepted culpability for orchestrating his father’s murder. He reportedly stated that he had been contemplating the murder for several months, stemming from financial disputes with Vineet and frustrations regarding his father’s relationships with other women.

This shift in narrative has significant implications for the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing. Investigators are actively reviewing the accounts provided by Subrat, Shalu, and Vishal, cross-referencing these statements with call records, CCTV footage, and their respective movements on the day of the murder.
