On Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who oversees Railways, Electronics, and Information Technology, in New Delhi. During the discussion, Dhami emphasized the need for prompt action regarding several critical projects intended to enhance rail connectivity within Uttarakhand.

Financial Request for Digital Kumbh Initiative

According to a press release issued after the meeting, Dhami outlined the extensive preparations for the upcoming Kumbh 2027. He specifically requested financial support amounting to Rs 143.96 crore from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for the development of the event as a “Digital Kumbh”.

Rail Connectivity Enhancements

The Chief Minister highlighted the growing tourism sector in Uttarakhand, which has led to increased traffic demand in the region. He advocated for the extension of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to connect Haridwar and Rishikesh. Additionally, he requested the completion and inauguration of the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail project by 2026. This is part of a broader initiative to improve transport infrastructure within the state.

Additional Project Proposals

Dhami presented several other infrastructure proposals during the meeting. He urged that the Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail project be designated a national project. He also sought permission for the Final Location Survey (FLS) of the Bageshwar-Karnaprayag rail line, as well as the doubling of the rail line between Haridwar and Dehradun. Furthermore, he requested the development of the Raiwala bypass bridge and the expedited completion of the FLS for sections of the Char Dham rail project, specifically the Doiwala-Uttarkashi and Karnaprayag-Pipalkoti sections. Additionally, he called for priority approval for the Mohand-Dehradun-Saharanpur rail line project.

Development in Sports Infrastructure

In a separate address on the same day, CM Dhami detailed the considerable advancements in sports infrastructure across the state. He reported the completion of over 102 mini stadiums and 157 playgrounds in Uttarakhand. According to him, these initiatives aim to provide better opportunities for the youth and enhance their athletic talents.

Promotion of Sports Culture

Dhami stated that these efforts are not just about expanding basic facilities but are significant steps towards realizing the aspirations of Uttarakhand’s youth. He communicated through a message that the construction of 102 mini stadiums and 157 playgrounds, along with 7 multipurpose halls, is aimed at fostering a robust sports culture in rural areas. He noted that local athletes have already gained recognition at both national and international levels, thereby bringing honor to the state.
