Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Grants Rs 148 Crore Scholarships to 4.6 Lakh Students

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Saturday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the disbursement of over Rs 148 crore in scholarships and fee reimbursements to more than 4.60 lakh students in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens for families, allowing students to pursue their education without hindrance. Speaking during a ceremony in Lucknow, Adityanath reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure that every eligible child receives the necessary financial support to continue their studies.

The Chief Minister expressed his intention to increase the number of beneficiaries from the current 4.60 lakh to a target of 70 lakh students. This ambitious goal reflects the government’s focus on expanding educational access and enhancing opportunities for students across the state. Adityanath stressed that financial difficulties should not impede the educational aspirations of children in Uttar Pradesh.

Comparative Analysis of Scholarship Distribution

In his speech, Adityanath highlighted the advancements made in the current scholarship distribution system compared to the previous administration under the Samajwadi Party. He stated that the introduction of technological measures has significantly reduced the risk of misappropriation of funds. “Modi ji’s technology campaign has stopped pilferage, and now no one can siphon off children’s scholarship money,” he commented. This assertion emphasises the changes implemented to improve transparency in the disbursement process.

Further clarification was provided regarding past scholarship allocations, with the Chief Minister alleging that only 60 to 70 per cent of students previously received the benefits owed to them. In contrast, his government’s initiatives reportedly ensure that a greater proportion of students are now accessing the scholarships. He noted the substantial growth in scholarship funding over the years, with the current government providing approximately Rs 6,200 crore as opposed to the Rs 2,900 crore allocated prior.

The Chief Minister shared statistics enabling a clearer understanding of the demographics benefitting from the current programme. Last year, Rs 2,750 crore was allocated to 26.26 lakh students from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), Rs 360 crore to 5.89 lakh minority students, and Rs 3,072 crore to 37 lakh students from Backward Classes. These figures demonstrate a broadening of the financial support base aimed at various communities within the state.

Improvements in Educational Infrastructure and Coaching

Adityanath also addressed strides made in enhancing school infrastructure through the Operation Kayakalp initiative. He listed several amenities provided to government schools, including toilets, drinking water, furniture, and educational materials. He recognised that previous infrastructure deficiencies had deterred girls from attending school, thus affecting their educational outcomes. This commitment to improving infrastructure aims to create a more conducive learning environment.

The Chief Minister mentioned the Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Coaching programme as an important development in supporting students preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). This initiative allows students to access quality coaching within Uttar Pradesh, reducing the need to travel to other states for such educational resources. Additionally, he announced that 50,000 meritorious girls would receive scooters next month, further supporting their educational pursuits.

In conclusion, Adityanath maintained that there would be no shortage of funds for students, emphasising the government’s ongoing efforts to bolster scholarship programmes and improve educational accessibility. The recent financial support and infrastructural improvements reflect a broader strategy to invest in the youth of Uttar Pradesh for their academic and future success.
