UP Elections: Yogi Adityanath Slams Samajwadi Party Over Governance, Education Record

The CSR Journal Magazine

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has accused the former Samajwadi Party administrations of lacking both policy and intent to govern effectively. During a meeting with teachers and graduates on October 21, in Vrindavan, Rai Bareli Road, he claimed that these governments allowed the mafia to dominate various organisations. Adityanath stated that the previous governments failed to implement necessary policies and lacked the will to take action.

He further alleged that the Samajwadi Party had a detrimental impact on the education system in Uttar Pradesh. According to Adityanath, the previous administrations appointed individuals who were not qualified to lead important recruitment commissions, including the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). He cited an instance where 56 out of 86 selected Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) belonged to the same caste, raising concerns about fairness in the selection process.

Adityanath also highlighted the poor performance of candidates during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure, noting that the highest scorer had only achieved a third division in Class 10, 12, and BA. He accused the previous government of conducting examinations in a manner that allowed unqualified individuals to receive appointment letters, while those who genuinely appeared for the exams were often untraceable.

Call for Change in Upcoming Elections

In his address, Adityanath labelled the Samajwadi Party as the “declared enemy of education,” emphasising the need for a response to the alleged mismanagement of educational institutions. He pointed out that Uttar Pradesh does not require an identity; rather, it is the previous administrations that have created an identity crisis for the state.

He expressed concern over the trend of undermining constitutional institutions and urged voters to ensure that the upcoming elections reflect justice. The elections for five graduates’ and six teachers’ seats are scheduled for October 23, 2023, from 8 am to 4 pm, with counting set for October 27. Adityanath stressed that the election process would be completed by October 31, as the terms of the current members will expire on December 6.

Adityanath reminded the audience of the conditions in Lucknow a decade ago, questioning the effectiveness of the previous leadership in improving basic amenities and meeting the aspirations of the youth. He noted that areas like Amethi and Rae Bareli were dominated by a single family but failed to make significant advancements in public services.

Achievements of the Current Government

Highlighting the accomplishments of the current “double-engine” government, Adityanath pointed to the establishment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rae Bareli and the construction of medical colleges in various districts, including Lakhimpur Kheri, Amethi, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, and Sultanpur. He claimed that these developments have greatly improved connectivity across the state.

He illustrated the progress made in travel times, stating that the journey from Lucknow to Prayagraj, which was previously arduous, can now be completed in just 2.5 to 3 hours. This improvement, according to Adityanath, is indicative of the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and public services in Uttar Pradesh.

As the elections approach, the outgoing members of the Legislative Council include six from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), three from the Samajwadi Party, and two independents. The upcoming polls are seen as a significant opportunity for the electorate to express their views on the governance of the state over the past years.
