Global Luxury Brands Embrace Diwali Festivities This Year

The CSR Journal Magazine

The headline reflects the increasing engagement of global luxury brands with the Diwali festival, as India’s luxury fashion market is projected to reach approximately $33.17 billion (₹3.15 lakh crore) by 2032, according to Ken Research. This growth is attributed to a burgeoning population of high-net-worth individuals and a strong inclination towards luxury spending both domestically and internationally. The festival of lights has become a significant event for these brands, as they seek to connect with affluent consumers who are keen on luxury products.

Rajan Narayan, a luxury brand consultant at Lonely Cloud Consulting, emphasises that Diwali has become a crucial occasion for global luxury brands. He states that the festival represents a blend of affluence, aspiration, and cultural pride, making it impossible for these brands to overlook. The economic factors driving this interest include India’s rapid growth as a luxury market, which is attracting the attention of international brands eager to establish a foothold in this lucrative segment.

Chandni Kumar Mehra, a luxury strategist and founder of The Talk Studio, highlights the importance of understanding Indian consumers. She notes that brands are recognising the significance of building relationships with Indian customers, who are increasingly integral to their future. Diwali encapsulates many aspects associated with luxury, such as dressing up, thoughtful gifting, and acquiring treasured items.

Festive Collections and Collaborations

Several luxury brands have launched special collections and campaigns to celebrate Diwali this year. Bvlgari introduced its first global Diwali campaign, titled “Passing the Light,” earlier this month at the Jaipur Centre for Art. This campaign features a terracotta installation by Indian artist Doyel Joshi, which resonates with traditional elements of the festival. Mehra, who attended the unveiling, remarked on the significance of using terracotta, a material commonly associated with diyas, interpreted through Bvlgari’s iconic Serpenti motif.

Christian Louboutin also made headlines with its limited-edition capsule collection, “Rayon de Lumière,” inspired by Mumbai’s architecture, which was launched on October 15. The brand has set up an immersive showcase at Chatterjee & Lal in Mumbai, running until October 28. Burberry has created a Diwali capsule line that includes a vanity bag, scarves, and menswear in vineyard red, while Jimmy Choo’s festive offerings feature five shoes and five bags in gold and red hues.

Designer Nitya Bajaj Birla expressed her appreciation for the recognition of Diwali by luxury brands, noting that the festival is now included in the global luxury calendar. She highlighted the growing commercial potential of the Indian market, stating that it is gratifying to see brands acknowledge Diwali with the same importance as Christmas. Fashion influencer Antara Asthana echoed this sentiment, observing that international brands are increasingly drawing inspiration from Indian festivals, reflecting the country’s rising purchasing power and luxury awareness.

Exclusive Celebrations and Events

The engagement of luxury brands with Diwali extends beyond product launches, as many are hosting exclusive events to celebrate the festival. Chanel held a Diwali party in Delhi earlier this month, featuring actor Ananya Panday, who is the brand’s first Indian ambassador. This event also celebrated Chanel’s upcoming Diwali 2026 beauty campaign, showcasing the brand’s commitment to the Indian market.

Valentino is also planning to host a Diwali party in India this year, further demonstrating the festival’s significance to luxury brands. Additionally, Cartier’s annual Diwali celebration took place earlier this week in Manhattan, USA, while luxury department store Harrods is preparing to illuminate its Knightsbridge store in London with festive lights next month. These events highlight the global reach and cultural integration of Diwali within the luxury sector.
