The Kimi K3.1 Pro, developed by the Chinese AI firm Moonshot AI, is designed to perform a variety of complex tasks including game development, 3D modelling, and financial research. This advanced model is equipped with a one-million-token context window and enhanced coding and reasoning capabilities, allowing it to operate without the need for separate tools.
According to reports from Reuters, Moonshot AI has taken steps to exclude cyber-related data from the training materials and reinforcement-learning environments used in the model’s development. The Kimi K3.1 Pro is classified as an open-weight AI model, meaning that developers can access its trained weights to run or modify the model on their own systems, subject to licensing agreements.
The company has announced that the full release of the Kimi K3.1 Pro is scheduled for November 4, 2026, marking a significant milestone in AI capabilities.
Capabilities in Game Development and 3D Modelling
Moonshot AI claims that the Kimi K3.1 Pro can seamlessly integrate with popular game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot. The model is designed to combine coding, web search, and 3D generation to create immersive interactive experiences. In a demonstration provided by the company, the model successfully generated a battle game featuring a mythical palace suspended in the clouds, complete with a warrior and a giant dragon.
In addition to game development, the Kimi K3.1 Pro can produce 3D designs based on text descriptions, sketches, or reference images. It is capable of generating a variety of objects, including mechanical components, architectural models, and custom furniture, while also allowing users to refine their designs according to their specifications.
Alongside this model, Moonshot AI has introduced a feature called 3D Make on its website and app. This allows users to preview and edit 3D models, download files suitable for 3D printing, or export their creations as videos and Live Photos.
Focus on Financial Research and Cybersecurity Measures
The Kimi K3.1 Pro also aims to assist in financial research, offering capabilities to prepare financial models, research presentations, and industry reports. A faster variant, known as Kimi K3.1 Pro Highspeed, is available, reportedly operating two to three times quicker than the standard model.
Moonshot AI has implemented limitations on the model’s cyber capabilities due to concerns that AI models capable of coding might enable users to discover and exploit software vulnerabilities. This has raised alarms among governments and cybersecurity experts regarding the potential for AI to automate aspects of cyberattacks.
The company has stated its intention to avoid releasing open-weight models that could push cyber capabilities to their limits. Internal benchmarks indicated that the K3.1 Pro scored 81 per cent on its cyber assessment, compared to 90.5 per cent for a similar version lacking risk-reduction measures. It is important to note that these results have not been independently verified.
This situation underscores the challenges associated with open-weight AI models. While they offer developers the ability to inspect, modify, and run the models locally, widespread sharing of the weights diminishes the original company’s control over their usage.
The Kimi K3.1 Pro is accessible through Kimi’s website, app, coding tools, and API, with the complete model weights anticipated to be available on November 4, 2026.
