Priti Adani Calls For Closer Industry-Academia Ties To Build India’s Semiconductor Talent

The CSR Journal Magazine

Dr Priti Adani, President of Adani University, has highlighted the necessity for enhanced collaboration between industry and academia to cultivate the skilled workforce required for India’s semiconductor sector. During her address at the ‘Conclave on Hardware, Innovation, Processing & Semiconductor Technologies (CHIPS) 2026’, she stated that establishing a robust semiconductor industry necessitates not only advanced manufacturing facilities but also a workforce capable of designing, developing, and refining intricate technologies.

Dr Adani remarked, “The true measure of our technological progress will not be how intelligent our machines become. It will be how wisely we develop and use human intelligence to build a better future.” Her comments underline the importance of human capital in advancing technological capabilities.

The conclave featured keynote addresses from experts representing prominent companies such as Qualcomm, NXP Semiconductors, Micron Technology, Synopsys, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, and Infineon Technologies. These experts covered a range of topics including wireless technology, semiconductor design, memory and storage solutions, power systems, and legal services, providing insights into the latest developments and opportunities within the semiconductor value chain.

Panel Discussions Address Key Industry Priorities

Three panel discussions were integral to the event, each focusing on critical priorities within the semiconductor industry. The first panel, titled “The Future of Semiconductor Design in India,” aimed to explore strategies for enhancing domestic design capabilities. This discussion was particularly relevant as India seeks to establish itself as a significant player in semiconductor design.

The second panel, “Semiconductor Manufacturing: Shaping India’s Technological Future,” delved into the critical role of manufacturing in advancing India’s technological landscape. This session highlighted the need for robust manufacturing processes to support the growing demand for semiconductors.

The third panel, “Career Opportunities in the Semiconductor Ecosystem,” examined emerging roles and skill requirements within the industry. This discussion provided valuable insights into potential career pathways for young professionals looking to enter the semiconductor field, emphasising the importance of aligning education with industry needs.

India’s Semiconductor Ambitions and Future Plans

The event was organised in partnership with IIT Mandi, the VLSI Society of India, and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, bringing together representatives from the Gujarat State Electronics Mission, semiconductor firms, and academic institutions. The discussions aimed to align research and technical education with the evolving demands of the industry, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to meet the challenges of the semiconductor sector.

India’s ambitions in the semiconductor arena extend beyond mere fabrication capabilities to encompass expertise in chip design, manufacturing, and packaging. The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has provided significant momentum in this regard, with projects underway in Dholera and Sanand that are enhancing Gujarat’s role in the semiconductor landscape.

Moreover, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is driving an increased demand for the infrastructure that supports it, including sophisticated chips, data centres, and reliable power supplies. Adani University is poised to play a pivotal role in this development, focusing on industry-aligned education and research in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and packaging.

The university plans to establish a multidisciplinary global campus in Ahmedabad, which will include specialised programmes for young engineers, executive education for industry professionals, and faculty development initiatives. These efforts aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical requirements of the industry, thereby fostering a skilled workforce capable of propelling India’s semiconductor ambitions forward.
