CM Yogi Extends Mahashivratri Greetings

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Adityanath also conveyed his best wishes for Mahashivratri, a significant festival in the Hindu calendar. He offered prayers to the gathered devotees at the Triveni Sangam in Tirtharaj Prayag, where many attendees participated in the holy dip. In a message shared online, he expressed hopes for the well-being of devotees and encouraged them to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Mother Ganga.

Celebration of Mahashivratri and its Significance

Devotees in large numbers attended the sacred bathing rituals at the Sangam ghats in Prayagraj on Mahashivratri, an event associated with the holy Magh Mela. Mahashivratri is celebrated nationwide, marked by deep devotion and involvement in various religious practices. The festival symbolizes the divine union between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, where followers observe fasts, offer prayers, and participate in night-long vigils.

The Mythological Context of Mahashivratri

According to Hindu beliefs, during the night of their wedding, Lord Shiva was accompanied to Goddess Parvati’s home by a multitude of divine beings, including gods and goddesses, along with other entities. The pair represents the ideal of love, strength, and unity. Thus, the festival commemorating their sacred relationship, Mahashivratri, evokes considerable fervor and devotion across India.
