Anuradha Lekhi Gupta Requests Privacy for Children After Sanjay Gupta’s Death

The CSR Journal Magazine

Anuradha Lekhi Gupta, the wife of filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, has issued a statement requesting privacy for their children in light of his recent passing. She expressed gratitude towards family, friends, fans, and media members for their support during this challenging time. Gupta reportedly died from a fatal head injury sustained in an accidental fall.

In her statement, Anuradha conveyed the profound impact of her husband’s death on their family. She stated, “A part of our lives has been lost forever, and nothing can ever fill the void or make up for this loss.” Her words reflect a deep sense of grief as she thanked those who have reached out to them.

She emphasised the importance of understanding the emotional turmoil their children are experiencing. “Sanjay loved his family and children immensely. Our children are adolescents who have suddenly lost their beloved father,” she noted, highlighting the sudden and devastating change in their lives.

Concerns Over Media Intrusion

Anuradha addressed the distress caused to their children by media attention following Gupta’s death. She explained that the children have grown up away from public scrutiny and are now struggling with the sudden invasion of their privacy. “In their grief and anguish, some of their reactions may have been directed towards certain members of the media. I sincerely regret any hurt this may have caused,” she stated.

She urged the public to view the children’s reactions as expressions of grief rather than as disrespectful behaviour. “I humbly request everyone to understand these reactions for what they truly are — the expressions of grieving children struggling to come to terms with an irreparable loss,” she added.

Anuradha also made a plea for the removal of any content involving the children from social media platforms. “Please allow them the privacy, compassion and space they need to grieve the loss of their father,” she concluded, emphasising the need for respect during this difficult time.

Video Controversy Following Funeral

The statement from Anuradha follows the emergence of a video recorded outside Gupta’s funeral in Mumbai, which has since gone viral. The footage, shared by a paparazzi page, allegedly shows Gupta’s daughter, Dalai, making an obscene gesture at photographers. However, her identity could not be independently verified as her face was concealed.

The video surfaced after family, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay their respects on Saturday. The clip depicts a girl in a car, reportedly laughing and gesturing at photographers, raising questions among viewers regarding her behaviour during such a solemn occasion.

Numerous individuals expressed confusion over the girl’s actions and questioned whether she was indeed Gupta’s daughter, given the lack of clarity in the footage. The paparazzi page’s claims about her identity remain unverified.

Industry Reactions and Gupta’s Legacy

Many notable figures from the film industry attended Gupta’s funeral, including Abhishek Bachchan, Farah Khan, and Rakesh Roshan. The emotional atmosphere was palpable, with Ronit Roy and Rohit Roy visibly affected by the loss. Milap Zaveri, who shared Anuradha’s statement, appeared shaken upon arriving at Gupta’s residence.

Sanjay Gupta passed away at the age of 57, leaving behind a significant legacy in Indian cinema. His career spanned over three decades, beginning with his directorial debut in 1994 with Aatish: Feel The Fire. He went on to direct several successful films, including Jung, Kaante, and Kaabil.

Gupta’s 2002 film Kaante, featuring prominent actors such as Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, marked a pivotal moment in his career. Reflecting on his journey in the industry, he acknowledged the challenges faced and expressed gratitude for the opportunities that allowed him to revive his career.
