UP Man Strangled to Death by Wife 2 Months After Marriage, Murder Staged as Suicide

The CSR Journal Magazine

The death of a 33-year-old contract employee of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly has taken a dramatic turn after police confirmed it was a case of murder and not suicide. Jitendra Yadav was found hanging in his rented room in the Izzatnagar area on January 26, barely two months after his love marriage.

Initially, the circumstances suggested suicide, and based on a complaint by Jitendra’s brother, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against his wife and her family. However, the post-mortem report later revealed signs of strangulation, prompting investigators to convert the case into one of murder.

Autopsy and Forensic Clues Raise Suspicion

According to police officials, the injuries on Jitendra’s neck were inconsistent with hanging and indicated manual pressure before death. Forensic experts also noted discrepancies in the position of the body, the placement of a stool, and the condition of the room, suggesting the scene had been staged.

These findings led investigators to believe that the body was hung after death to mislead authorities.

Marriage, Property Dispute, and Alleged Threats

Jitendra, a native of Etawah, had been in a relationship with Jyoti Prajapati for nearly nine years before marrying her on November 25 last year, against their families’ wishes. After the marriage, Jitendra’s family alleged that Jyoti and her relatives began pressuring him to sell his ancestral land to purchase a house and a car.

His brother claimed that Jitendra had expressed fears for his safety and had told relatives that he was being threatened with false dowry cases if he refused.

Police Arrest Wife and Parents

During interrogation, Jyoti allegedly admitted that an argument broke out between the couple over Jitendra’s gambling losses. Police claim that during the altercation, she pressed his neck, leading to his death.

Investigators said Jyoti then contacted her parents, Kalicharan and Chameli, who allegedly helped stage the murder as a suicide. Call records, location data, and CCTV footage reportedly placed family members near the house at the time of the incident.

Police arrested Jyoti and her parents on January 31. All three have been sent to judicial custody, while further investigation continues, including the possible role of opposition to inter-caste marriage.
