UP Man Climbs Tower, Demands to Marry Dead Wife’s Third Sister After Marrying the Second

The CSR Journal Magazine

A bizarre and dramatic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district after a man climbed a high-voltage electricity tower demanding to marry his deceased wife’s younger sister. The man, Raj Saxena, created a scene reminiscent of a Bollywood film, drawing crowds and necessitating police intervention.

Two Marriages in the Same Family

Saxena initially married a woman in 2021. However, tragedy struck the following year when his wife succumbed to an illness. Following her demise, Saxena married her elder sister, a decision accepted by both families. For two years, the marriage remained stable until Saxena allegedly developed romantic feelings for his second sister-in-law, the youngest sister of his first and current wife.

The Tower Standoff

On Thursday morning, Raj informed his wife of his desire to marry her younger sister. When she refused outright, Saxena reacted dramatically by climbing an electricity transmission tower in the village. Shouting his demands from atop the tower, he shocked onlookers and drew comparisons to the iconic scene from the Bollywood classic Sholay.

Concerned residents gathered at the site, and local police were soon dispatched to handle the unusual crisis. For nearly seven hours, authorities and family members negotiated with Saxena, eventually persuading him to climb down safely.

Police and Public Response

Police confirmed that Saxena only agreed to descend after being given assurances, whether genuine or a tactical move, that his wish to marry the second sister-in-law would be considered. The incident has sparked a mixture of amusement, disbelief, and concern across social media and local communities.

Saxena’s Claim of Mutual Love

After being brought down safely, Raj told reporters that his younger sister-in-law reciprocates his feelings. No formal complaint has been lodged yet, and authorities are investigating the matter further, particularly regarding any potential coercion or family disputes.

As of now, no legal action has been taken against Saxena, though police have expressed concern over the safety risks involved in his public stunt.
