The Trinamool Congress (TMC) escalated its political confrontation with the Centre on Monday, launching a synchronized “inside-outside” protest strategy in the national capital. While Party Chairperson Mamata Banerjee led a demonstration on the streets of Delhi, veteran MP Kalyan Banerjee spearheaded a vocal protest within the walls of Parliament.
Mamata Issues Stern Warning at Banga Bhavan
The tension began early Monday morning when Delhi Police reportedly cordoned off Banga Bhavan, the state guest house for West Bengal.
Accompanied by TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee arrived at the site to protest what she termed as “unwarranted police interference.”
Addressing the media, the West Bengal Chief Minister directed her criticism toward Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“The Delhi Police has surrounded Banga Bhavan since morning, searching rooms to see who has arrived. They have no right to do this; this is our territory,” Banerjee stated.
She further cautioned the Home Minister against using “muscle power,” warns that if the Centre continues to lay out a “black carpet” of hostility, the TMC would respond with “black results.”
High Drama in the Lok Sabha
As the Budget Session commenced, the friction shifted to the floor of the House. Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his seat and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi prepared to speak, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee launched a fierce protest.
CM Banerjee reportedly descended into the Well of the House, shouting slogans directed at the Treasury benches. The protest took place in close proximity to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, briefly stalling the proceedings.
Restoration of Order
Speaker Om Birla intervened immediately, urging the Srerampore MP to return to his seat and maintain parliamentary decorum. Following a few minutes of heated exchange, the situation was brought under control, allowing Rahul Gandhi to begin his scheduled address.
The coordinated efforts by the TMC leadership signal a deepening rift between the West Bengal government and the Centre, setting a confrontational tone for the remainder of the Budget Session.
