Tribal Ministry Plans 300 Projects for Janjatiya Gaurav Pakhwada

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is set to conduct a nationwide campaign named Janjatiya Gaurav Pakhwada from November 1 to 15. This initiative will culminate in the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, which commemorates the birth anniversary of the renowned tribal freedom fighter, Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The campaign will feature over 300 projects, two national digital initiatives, and more than 160 activities at the state level, aiming to enhance the welfare of tribal communities across India.

The fortnight-long campaign is designed to improve awareness of government welfare schemes and accelerate the implementation of key programmes. Among these are the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan. A senior official from the ministry stated that the primary goal is to ensure that tribal families are informed about and can access the benefits and entitlements that are intended for them.

This initiative will combine cultural celebrations with service delivery and community engagement, creating a holistic approach to welfare for tribal populations. The ministry aims to reach the last mile in delivering these essential services to the communities that need them the most.

Digital Initiatives to Enhance Service Delivery

As part of the campaign, the Jan-HIT (Janjatiya Health Intelligence and Technology) Portal will be launched in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). This portal will provide tribe-disaggregated health data covering 20 states, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of health challenges faced by tribal communities. The health portal is expected to serve as a valuable resource for policymakers, enabling them to address specific health issues more effectively.

Additionally, the National Forest Rights Act (FRA) Digital Platform will be introduced to streamline the process of forest rights claims. This platform will consolidate various steps, from Gram Sabha submissions to digitally signed titles, into a single digital system. The official noted that these initiatives are aimed at improving access to information and enhancing the delivery of public services to tribal communities.

These digital tools are anticipated to facilitate a more efficient process for recognising forest rights, thereby empowering tribal communities to assert their rights over forest resources. The integration of technology into these initiatives marks a significant step towards modernising the approach to tribal welfare.

Key Events and Historical Significance

Among the notable events during the campaign, approximately 200 students from Eklavya Model Residential Schools will have the opportunity to interact with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 12. This interaction aims to inspire the younger generation and highlight the importance of education within tribal communities.

November 15 was officially designated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in 2021 to honour Birsa Munda and acknowledge the contributions of tribal communities to India’s freedom struggle and cultural heritage. The 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda was celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh in 2024-25, featuring over two lakh activities and attracting more than 3.8 crore participants, as reported by the ministry.

The Janjatiya Gaurav Pakhwada is expected to reinforce the government’s commitment to tribal welfare and cultural recognition, while also fostering a sense of pride among tribal communities across the nation. This initiative represents a significant effort to bridge the gap between government services and tribal populations, ensuring that they receive the benefits they are entitled to.
