Three Terrorists Killed in Kishtwar Gunfight After Weeks-Long Search Operation

The CSR Journal Magazine

In Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, security personnel have killed three terrorists during a gunfight that unfolded in the Chatroo forest region. This operation represented the culmination of an extensive search that had been ongoing for weeks, characterized by challenging terrain and dense forest cover. Officials confirmed the firefight occurred after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of terrorists who were reportedly taking refuge in a mud structure.

As the security teams approached the suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire, initiating a prolonged exchange of gunfire lasting several hours. The initial clashes resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists, while the body of a third was recovered later in the day from a demolished hideout. Authorities are in the process of verifying the identities of the slain terrorists.

Operation Involves Multiple Security Forces

The operation was spearheaded by units from CIF Delta, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). A spokesperson for the White Knight Corps stated that their troops maintained control over the encounter area and resumed engagement after re-establishing communication on Sunday morning.

The Kishtwar and Udhampur districts have experienced a series of violent encounters since mid-January, resulting in several terrorist fatalities, including three individuals killed in a clash on February 4. The current engagement forms part of a broader operational campaign, referred to as Operation Trashi-I, which began following a gunfight on January 18 that resulted in the death of a paratrooper and injuries to seven soldiers.

Ongoing Efforts Against Terrorism

This recent operation follows numerous skirmishes in the past month as military forces have attempted to track down a group of terrorists believed to be traversing between locations such as Sonnar, Janseer-Kandiwar, Dachaan, and the surrounding high-altitude areas. A critical hideout was reported discovered on January 19, resulting in intensified search and engagement operations in the region.

The Northern Command has emphasized that these operations will persist in an effort to prevent terrorists from finding safe havens in the area, highlighting a continued commitment to combatting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The operations reflect a strategic approach to address the challenging security situation in the region, which has witnessed a rise in violent incidents.
