In a significant development, the Bengal Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested three owners of a century-old licensed gun shop in Kolkata, linking them to an illegal arms trafficking network. The arrests follow a recent raid in Rahara where a large cache of illegal firearms and ammunition was discovered.

The owners of the B.B.D. Bag gun shop, Nursing Chunder & Daw, were arrested by the STF on suspicion of their involvement in the illegal trade of cartridges and firearms. Sources within the STF allege that the shop was illegally trading large quantities of cartridges and that the owners were selling firearms off the record, diverting them to the black market.
Connection with Rahara arms haul
The investigation began after a raid on an apartment in Rahara on August 4, where police seized 16 firearms, 905 cartridges, and over a lakh in cash. This case was subsequently transferred to the STF for a more detailed investigation.
During their own raid on the gun shop, the STF team reportedly seized 41 unrecorded firearms, including both single- and double-barreled guns. The recovered weapons had no corresponding entries in the shop’s official documents, suggesting a deliberate attempt to evade legal records.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Subir Daw, Abhiir Daw, and Subrata Daw. The investigation is ongoing as police work to trace the buyers of the illegal firearms and uncover the full extent of the trafficking network.
