The CSR Journal Magazine

The third individual implicated in a case of alleged rape, blackmail, extortion, and forced conversion involving a 24-year-old woman in Nagpur has surrendered to authorities and was subsequently taken into custody. This development was confirmed by officials on June 18, following the arrest of two other suspects a few days earlier.

According to Singa Reddy Rushikesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone 1 of the Nagpur City Police, the accused turned himself in late on the night of June 17. Following his surrender, he was swiftly arrested and is expected to appear before a judicial authority later on June 18.

The police response was triggered by the woman’s detailed complaint, which led to a thorough investigation commencing soon after. The police had initially detained the other two suspects based on her allegations prior to this individual’s surrender.

Allegations and Circumstances Surrounding the Case

The complainant alleged that she had been subjected to a series of assaults, including rape and intimidation, as part of a broader scheme to extort money from her. It is reported that the primary suspect made contact with her under the guise of offering assistance regarding a property matter. This interaction allegedly took a sinister turn during a meeting at a hotel in February 2025, during which she claims an intoxicating substance was administered.

During the aforementioned encounter, compromising materials, including photographs and videos, were captured without her consent. The woman asserted that these items were used to coerce and threaten her, leading to approximately Rs 4 lakh being extorted from her over a prolonged period.

In addition to the extortion and blackmail allegations, the woman indicated that she had undergone certain rituals and practices which culminated in the alleged sexual assault. The case has seen law enforcement invoke relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to sexual assault, as well as provisions related to criminal intimidation and extortion.

Forced Conversion Allegations and Legal Proceedings

The case has drawn significant attention due to its serious allegations, including those related to forced conversion. Various provisions of Maharashtra’s anti-superstition and anti-black magic laws have been applied to the case, indicating the seriousness with which law enforcement is approaching these allegations.

Law enforcement authorities continue to investigate the case, gathering evidence and statements from involved parties as they prepare for court proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing, with officials emphasising the importance of ensuring justice for the victim in this sensitive situation.
