Tejashwi Yadav Accuses BJP of Manipulating Bihar CM Nitish Kumar

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bihar’s Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, has leveled accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been manipulated for political advantage. Speaking with reporters in Patna, Yadav used a metaphor to describe the situation, stating that Kumar is being treated like a “groom on a horse,” yet his matrimonial rituals are being conducted by “another party.”

Yadav emphasized that his previous warnings regarding the BJP’s intentions to undermine Kumar as Chief Minister have now come to fruition. He asserted that public sentiment opposes this shift in authority. In light of Kumar’s decision to pursue a seat in the Rajya Sabha, Yadav remarked, “I have always stated that while Nitish ji is the one chosen, the rituals are being performed elsewhere.”

Yadav’s comments follow Nitish Kumar’s fifth electoral victory in the 2025 elections, where the NDA secured a significant two-thirds majority, marking his tenth swearing-in. Kumar holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar. Throughout his political career, Kumar has demonstrated notable shifts and adaptations within the party landscape of the state.

Nitish Kumar’s Political Journey

Kumar initially began his political journey as a member of the Janata Dal, securing a position as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1985. He later co-founded the Samata Party in 1994 alongside George Fernandes and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996, subsequently serving as a Union Minister under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s administration. In 2005, he led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a majority victory in the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.

The NDA coalition successfully retained power during the 2010 elections, after which Kumar’s political alliances began to shift. In June 2013, he made a strategic break from the BJP, aligning himself with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress. Although he briefly stepped back as Chief Minister in 2014, he returned to leadership in 2015 under the Mahagathbandhan coalition, leading to another electoral success that year.

In 2017, however, Kumar severed ties with the RJD, re-joining the NDA to form yet another coalition with the BJP. This new partnership continued through the 2020 state elections. A further twist occurred in August 2022 when he returned to the Mahagathbandhan. By January 2024, Kumar shifted allegiance again, re-aligning with the NDA and reassuming the Chief Ministerial role, culminating in a decisive victory in the 2025 elections.
