Suvendu Adhikari Calls for ‘Ram Rajya’ During High-Voltage Ram Navami Procession in Kolkata

The CSR Journal Magazine

Amidst the fervor of the 2026 Assembly Election campaign, Leader of the Opposition and Bhawanipur candidate, Suvendu Adhikari, led a massive Ram Navami procession today, weaving a potent mix of religious celebration and political messaging through the streets of South Kolkata.

The march, which commenced at Yadubabu Bazar and concluded at Hazra Crossing, served as a significant platform for Adhikari to connect with voters. Beyond the traditional festivities, the BJP leader issued a provocative clarion call that has ignited fresh political debates across West Bengal.

A Vision of ‘Ram Rajya’

Speaking to the press during the rally, Adhikari outlined his vision for the state, centered on the concept of Ram Rajya.

“We seek a Ram Rajya where there is work for every hand, food for every stomach, and a roof over every head,” Adhikari stated. “Our mission is to ensure good governance and the safety of women, while simultaneously calling for the eradication of those who oppose Sanatan culture and Hindu interests.”

This rhetoric, blending social welfare promises with hardline ideological stances, is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the Hindu vote bank ahead of the crucial polls. During the walk, Adhikari engaged in extensive public outreach, stopping to speak with residents, pedestrians, and even the relatives of patients at Sambhunath Pandit Hospital.

State-Wide Tensions and Clashes

While the Kolkata march remained largely peaceful, Ram Navami celebrations across the state were marred by confrontations. In New Town, a standoff erupted between police and BJP supporters, including candidate Pijush Kanoria, after security forces attempted to intercept a youth allegedly carrying a weapon into the procession.

Similar friction points were reported in:

Islampur: Police halted a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) rally, leading to a sit-in protest on the streets.

Howrah: Large-scale processions by the Anjaniputra Sena were closely monitored following past sensitivities.

Debra: Senior leader Dilip Ghosh spearheaded a massive bike rally to mark the occasion.

Campus Ideological Wars

The festivities also spilled over into West Bengal’s premier educational institutions, sparking ideological clashes. At Calcutta University, members of the ABVP and nationalist student groups filled the air with chants of “Jai Shree Ram.” Conversely, at Jadavpur University, a counter-protest erupted as students voiced strong opposition to the presence of RSS-backed organizations on campus, chanting slogans invoking revolutionary figures like Khudiram Bose and Pritilata Waddedar to denounce what they termed “divisive politics.”

As the state moves closer to the election, the events of this Ram Navami have underscored the deep-seated political and cultural divisions currently defining the landscape of West Bengal.
