Sooryavanshi Misses Out as India Revamp XI for West Indies Opener

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a significant move, India has made four adjustments to their lineup for the first T20I match against the West Indies in Lucknow. The most notable exclusion is 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who misses out on the opportunity to play on home soil. Instead, Sanju Samson has been selected as the second opener alongside Abhishek Sharma.

Samson, despite facing difficulties at the No. 3 position in previous matches, has a commendable record in sub-continental conditions. He notably scored a pair of half-centuries during the last T20I series against Afghanistan. The decision to retain him in the lineup reflects India’s strategy for the game against the West Indies.

New Faces and Key Changes

The Indian team has introduced Naman Dhir, who is set to make his T20I debut. The all-rounder received his maiden cap from fellow player Arshdeep Singh. Dhir had previously made his ODI debut against the West Indies on September 27, showcasing the selectors’ confidence in his potential.

Captain Shreyas Iyer, upon winning the toss, opted to bowl first at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. He expressed expectations regarding the pitch’s mixed soil condition, which may lead to dew influencing play later in the match. “We are going to bowl first, it’s a mixed soil. There will be some dew as well,” Iyer stated, highlighting the team’s mindset following their travel to Lucknow.

Iyer acknowledged the strength of the West Indies team, underscoring the anticipation of a challenging contest. He noted their impressive T20 cricket record and strong batting line-up as factors to consider, stating, “They have been fabulous, they have dominated T20 cricket in the last few years.” This statement underscores the competitive nature of the upcoming match.
