Seven Individuals Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Kerala

The CSR Journal Magazine

Seven individuals, including two women, were apprehended following the seizure of 308 grams of MDMA in Kerala’s Thrissur district, as reported by officials on Sunday. The operation initiated when police discovered two grams of the synthetic narcotic concealed within the personal belongings of one of the women during a vehicle inspection.

This investigative operation commenced on the night of Friday, as officers from the Peechi police station conducted a routine check at a vehicle stop in Vaniyampara. The police grew suspicious of the four individuals inside the car, leading to a comprehensive search that uncovered the hidden drugs.

The individuals who faced arrest were identified as Shifaz, 26; Vidya, 28; Jishnu, 27; and Sreelakshmi, 20. During the interrogation, they reportedly claimed they were returning from a party held at a resort located in the neighbouring Palakkad district.

Investigation Expands Following Further Discoveries

Following the initial arrests, the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force was called in to further investigate the matter. Police inquiries revealed that Shifaz was allegedly responsible for procuring the MDMA.

In a subsequent search of Shifaz’s residence under the jurisdiction of the Pavaratty police station, authorities managed to recover an additional 13 grams of MDMA. During the investigation, it was discovered that some narcotics had reportedly been removed from the premises by Shifaz’s friend, Sumesh.

Authorities used this new information to track down Sumesh, leading to the identification of two associates: Shabeer P A, 37, from Thaikkad, and Ansad, 33, from Chavakkad. The Chavakkad police subsequently apprehended the pair and recovered a significant quantity of MDMA—288.8 grams—located within an aluminium fabrication shop in Thaikkad on Saturday.

Legal Actions Following the Arrests

In total, law enforcement seized 308 grams of MDMA across two connected cases that were registered at the Peechi and Chavakkad police stations. Following the completion of interrogations, all seven individuals were presented before a court on Sunday and were remanded to judicial custody.

Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding these drug-trafficking activities, aiming to dismantle the wider network that reportedly facilitated the distribution of MDMA in the region. The investigation remains ongoing, with the police committed to curbing the spread of illegal narcotics.

This incident underlines the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in combatting drug-related crimes, even as efforts to tackle narcotics trafficking are intensified across the state. The collaboration between various police units is seen as crucial in addressing such illegal activities effectively.
