The Rajasthan government is making significant strides to enhance local development and elevate district-specific products on a global scale through the One District, One Product (ODOP) Policy. This initiative is designed to empower local artisans, entrepreneurs, and small businesses, thereby fostering employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth throughout the state. The Chief Minister’s Office has indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the importance of comprehensive local development in every village, tehsil, and district, as part of the goal to achieve a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The Prime Minister emphasized that fostering a self-reliant India is attainable through initiatives like Vocal for Local and Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. Within this framework, the ODOP policy is shaping the “local to global” vision, helping products from Rajasthan establish a unique identity on international platforms.

Support for Local Entrepreneurs

This policy outlines specific products for each district, promoting local entrepreneurship while taking into account the unique characteristics of each area. The initiative encourages entrepreneurial activities in rural regions by offering technical support, financial assistance, and facilitating market access, which collectively create new avenues for growth. Industries involved in the ODOP scheme are eligible for margin money grants, support for technological advancements, quality certifications, and assistance with intellectual property rights (IPR), as well as reimbursements for participating in national and international events.

Financial Assistance and Incentives

The state government extends comprehensive financial and technical support to empower entrepreneurs under the ODOP policy. Newly established micro and small enterprises can avail margin money subsidies of up to 25% of the total project cost, with a ceiling of Rs 25 lakh. Additionally, for technology upgrades, these businesses are eligible for financial assistance that can cover up to 50% of costs, capped at Rs 5 lakh, for acquiring the latest technology and software. Entrepreneurs can also receive reimbursements for national and international quality certifications and intellectual property rights, amounting to 75% of their costs, up to Rs 3 lakh. Participation in e-commerce platforms is supported with a 75% reimbursement, limited to Rs 1 lakh per year for two years.

Encouraging Technological Advancements

To facilitate technological modernization, recognized national institutions provide a 50% subsidy, up to Rs 5 lakh, for acquiring advanced technologies or software. Additionally, entrepreneurs are assisted in cataloguing services and developing e-commerce websites, receiving 60% financial aid up to Rs 75,000. This support is aimed at enhancing product branding and ensuring wider market access for local businesses.

The effective execution of the ODOP policy is making a notable impact on promoting entrepreneurship and local products across Rajasthan. Many beneficiaries have reported receiving financial assistance, aiding in enterprise establishment, marketing, and enhancing their product units. Margin money support has attracted substantial investments, while extensive aid is also available for marketing, e-commerce participation, quality certifications, and technological improvements.
