Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, remarked that the recent student protests related to the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak were not characterised by anger or violence. During a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, he called on all political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to respect the voices of the youth.

Gandhi expressed reassurance by what he witnessed during these protests. He noted, “What occurred on our streets is deeply significant. This was not mere anger, nor was it violence or hatred; it was a heartfelt expression from our youth regarding their future.” He emphasised the importance of acknowledging and respecting this sentiment across the political spectrum.

In addressing the BJP, Gandhi suggested that party leaders should engage with their own children to understand their sentiments about the protests. He asserted that there would likely be agreement among the younger generation regarding the issues raised by the protests. “If my friends in the BJP were to inquire of their own children about the actions of the students, I believe they would find alignment in feelings,” he stated.
