The film Dhurandhar: The Revenge has found itself in the midst of controversy after a complaint was lodged regarding a scene featuring actor R Madhavan. In this particular segment, Madhavan’s character smokes while reciting a verse from the Dasam Granth, which has led to allegations of offending Sikh religious sentiments. In response to the growing criticism, Madhavan released a video message aimed at clarifying his intentions behind the scene.

In his message, Madhavan expressed gratitude for the audience’s support while acknowledging the concerns raised by some viewers. He referred to the backlash as a misunderstanding, stating, “Thodi galatfehmi hai,” which translates to “There’s a slight misunderstanding.” He assured that precautions had been taken prior to the scene to ensure that it was respectful to the Sikh community.

Madhavan elaborated that, before the scene was filmed, director Aditya Dhar had instructed him to extinguish the cigarette well ahead of reciting the lines. He emphasized that no smoke would be seen in the frame and that he would not be holding a cigarette during the recitation, reiterating the sacredness of the material involved. He mentioned, “This is extremely sacred and pure for us,” confirming the careful approach taken by the production team.

The actor further clarified that although his character is depicted smoking earlier in the narrative, this action does not extend into the significant moment of recitation. This distinction was made to highlight that the portrayal was handled with sensitivity. Madhavan conveyed that respect for cultural and religious sentiments was paramount and that the team had no intention of causing any disrespect or hurt.

In addition to addressing the controversy, Madhavan shared his own connection to the Sikh faith, revealing that he routinely visits the Golden Temple prior to the release of his films. He encouraged the audience to trust the film team’s integrity and intentions while reiterating their commitment to being sensitive in their portrayals.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, follows the transformation of a spy character played by Ranveer Singh into Hamza Ali Mazari, delving into his rise within the power structure of Lyari. The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor, and Sara Arjun, adding layers to its narrative through various character arcs.

The recent incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by filmmakers in representing diverse cultures and sentiments responsibly while striving for creative expression within cinematic narratives.
