Punjab Tragedy: Father Shoots Wife, Two Young Daughters, Kills Self

The CSR Journal Magazine

A grim silence hung over Harman Nagar in Punjab’s Ferozepur district on Thursday after four members of a family were discovered dead inside their home, triggering shock and grief among residents. Police believe the deaths may be the result of a murder-suicide, though officials stress that the inquiry is ongoing.

The discovery was made early in the day when the family’s domestic worker arrived and found the house secured from within. With no response to repeated calls and knocks, she alerted occupants living upstairs and nearby neighbours. After several failed attempts to reach the family by phone, the group broke open the entrance.

Inside the house, the bodies of a man, a woman, and two young children were found lying in blood. Police were informed immediately, and teams rushed to the spot to begin preliminary investigations. A pistol was recovered from near the bodies, suggesting the use of a firearm in the incident.

Deceased Identification

The deceased were identified as 42-year-old Amandeep Singh, his wife Jasveer Kaur (40), and their daughters Manveer Kaur (10) and Parmeet Kaur (6). Investigators suspect that Singh shot his family members before taking his own life, though officials say no final conclusion has been reached.

Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said authorities are examining every possible angle. “It seems to be a case of suicide by Amandeep, who apparently killed his family members, but the police will investigate all the possible aspects,” the SSP said.

Forensic experts have collected material evidence from the scene, and the bodies have been sent to the Civil Hospital in Ferozepur for post-mortem examination. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being reviewed, and statements from neighbours, tenants, and the househelp have been recorded.

Victims Had Recently Shifted to Harman Nagar Home

Police revealed that the family had gone out on Wednesday evening and returned home around 11 pm. They had moved into the residence only five months ago and occupied the ground floor, while a family from Jharkhand lived on the first floor as tenants.

Amandeep Singh was engaged in the construction and finance business and had recently ventured into the salon industry. A new salon set up by him was scheduled to be inaugurated shortly. Neighbours described the family as quiet and said they maintained friendly relations in the locality.

The incident has left the neighbourhood shaken, with residents struggling to come to terms with the deaths particularly those of the two children. Police said further information would be shared as the investigation moves forward.
