Punjab Teen Builds ‘Flow AI’ to Simplify Work for Insurance Agents

The CSR Journal Magazine

Advith Sharma, an 18-year-old from Ludhiana, Punjab, has created an AI platform aiming to transform India’s insurance sector. Alongside co-founder Arsh Gupta, he introduced Flow AI, which is designed to assist insurance agents and brokers in efficiently managing their daily tasks. This software aims to significantly reduce the time spent on previously laborious processes, achieving in minutes what used to take several days.

Sharma’s initiative also includes Insurance GPT, a chatbot that provides instant policy recommendations for customers. His approach focuses on underlying inefficiencies he identified within the industry, leading to the development of tools tailored to real-world needs.

Unlike many peers who focus on conventional educational pursuits, Sharma invested time engaging with over 150 insurance professionals across North India. This experience allowed him to observe the various challenges agents face, including tracking policies and managing customer interactions.

How Flow AI Enhances Agency Operations

Sharma describes Flow AI as the operating system for insurance intermediaries, equipped with capabilities to eliminate disorganisation in workflows. He explains that Flow replaces traditional management methods involving Excel sheets, WhatsApp, and emails, streamlining operations into a single cohesive system.

The platform’s AI functionality extends beyond answering queries. It also automates essential tasks such as sending renewal reminders, monitoring pending claims, and updating business records. As a result, processes that previously took three to five hours each day can now be accomplished in a matter of seconds.

Flow AI accommodates the existing habits of agents, allowing them to continue using familiar tools like WhatsApp or PDFs, thereby reducing friction during the transition to more advanced solutions.

Accessible Solution for Agents

Cost-effectiveness is another significant advantage of Flow AI, particularly for smaller insurance agents. Traditional software can be prohibitively expensive, with some systems charging anywhere from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 monthly, and larger firms spending up to Rs 7.5 lakh annually. In contrast, Flow AI is priced starting at just Rs 699 per month, thereby making it accessible to agents in Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions.

The platform complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) 2023 and is offered as a subscription service, which means that agents do not incur substantial upfront costs. The marketing strategy utilises various channels, including LinkedIn and Instagram, as well as cold calls and free trials to attract potential clients.

Sharma’s background in insurance, stemming from his father’s long career in the field, has significantly influenced his understanding of the industry. Alongside his technological pursuits, he balances studying at Scaler School of Technology in Bengaluru with interests in reading and exploring innovations in AI.

Transforming the Insurance Landscape

Flow AI addresses several common challenges faced by insurance intermediaries. Tasks such as managing renewals, comparing policies, and document handling are now simplified through automation, which also helps mitigate the risk of manual errors. Furthermore, this platform enhances business tracking, ensuring agents remain informed about active policies and leads.

Customers benefit from Insurance GPT, which facilitates policy selection without requiring extensive research, creating a more fluid experience for both agents and clients. Advith Sharma’s approach exemplifies how thoughtful innovation can address pressing issues within a vital sector.

Thus far, Flow AI has been adopted by three brokers and over 57 agents. Advith and his co-founder have established AetherLabs without external funding, indicating both the potential impact and the significant changes they are bringing to the insurance industry in India.
