Priyanka Gandhi Criticises Alleged Theft of Donations for Ram Temple

The CSR Journal Magazine

Congress Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has expressed strong disapproval regarding the purported theft of donations intended for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Describing the situation as both “tragic” and “shameful,” she highlighted the need for accountability among those tasked with collecting and safeguarding these funds. Her comments came during a press interaction following a meeting at the Wayanad Collectorate on Saturday.

The controversy surrounding the alleged misappropriation of funds emerged on June 7, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 13 at the behest of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The SIT has since submitted a preliminary report to the state government, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on June 25 based on the SIT’s recommendations. Ayodhya police confirmed the apprehension of multiple individuals involved on Friday.

As of now, eight individuals have been arrested in relation to the case and are currently in judicial custody until June 29, according to police statements.

Priyanka Gandhi Calls for Accountability

In her statements, Priyanka Gandhi emphasised that numerous individuals across the country had contributed to the temple through a nationwide fundraising initiative. She pointed out that these donations were not solely from large corporations but also included contributions from everyday citizens. “If people have given, women have given from their savings, from their homes, poor people have given,” she noted, urging for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.

Continuing her discourse, she questioned who was responsible for ensuring the safety of the collected donations. “If you collected them, it’s your responsibility to keep them safe,” she remarked. Her comments reflect a growing concern over the management and security of funds raised for significant religious projects.

Moreover, a senior official linked to the investigation indicated that the SIT had made “strong and strict” recommendations in their preliminary findings presented to the state government earlier this week. It was also mentioned that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is taking the matter with utmost seriousness, assuring that any individuals found culpable would face significant repercussions.

Ongoing Investigations in Wayanad Area

Priyanka Gandhi arrived in her Wayanad constituency on Thursday and is expected to participate in various initiatives and meetings throughout her visit. Amidst her political engagements, the investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations collected for the Ram Temple is progressing.

The unfolding situation has attracted considerable attention not only within the political sphere but also among the general public, with demands for accountability and transparency echoing through various channels. Officials working on the case are under pressure to clarify the details and ensure that justice is served.

As the investigation develops, it remains crucial for the authorities to address the concerns raised by the community and restore trust in the processes involved in fundraising for religious causes.
