Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a telephonic conversation with Netherlands Prime Minister Rob Jetten, during which the two leaders discussed the evolving security situation in West Asia and stressed the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said both leaders exchanged views on the ongoing developments and underlined the importance of de-escalation. “Also exchanged views on the situation in West Asia and emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region,” he said.

Focus On Strategic Partnership

The leaders also discussed ways to deepen bilateral ties between India and the Netherlands, highlighting the growing scope of cooperation across sectors.

Prime Minister Modi noted that both sides see strong potential for collaboration in areas such as semiconductors, mega water projects, green hydrogen and talent mobility.

Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, in his remarks, emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation at a time of global uncertainty. He said he looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Modi to the Netherlands in the near future to further advance bilateral engagement.

Expanding Economic And Trade Ties

Jetten also referred to the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement concluded earlier this year, noting that it provides a strong foundation for expanding economic ties.

He said India and the Netherlands are building a strategic partnership encompassing defence, water management, innovation and trade.

“With everything going on in the world at the moment, now is the time to strengthen our cooperation,” Jetten said, adding that the conversation marked an important step in enhancing bilateral relations.

Growing Cooperation Across Sectors

India and the Netherlands have been steadily expanding cooperation across multiple domains. Earlier this month, officials highlighted ongoing collaboration in cultural and creative sectors, with experts from both countries working on joint projects.

The two sides have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation on maritime heritage, including development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal in Gujarat.

In addition, both countries have agreed to establish a Joint Trade and Investment Committee to facilitate economic cooperation and boost bilateral investments.

Officials said the continued high-level engagement reflects India’s broader diplomatic outreach and its intent to play an active role in shaping global discussions on security, trade and economic stability.
