Death Threats Received by Haridwar Jail Superintendent Linked to Lawrence Bishnoi’s Gang

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Senior Superintendent of Roshnabad Jail in Haridwar district has reportedly received death threats via WhatsApp, allegedly linked to the ‘Lawrence Group’. An official confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged following these threats. The incident has prompted a police investigation to uncover the identity of the individual behind the threats.

Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police, Navneet Singh Bhullar, stated that the jail superintendent approached the authorities after receiving a WhatsApp call that included threats, complemented by several subsequent messages. Following these developments, a formal complaint was submitted, leading to the lodging of an FIR at the SIDCUL police station.

Bhullar emphasised the seriousness of the situation due to the involvement of a senior officer and the invocation of a gangster’s name. He indicated that specialised teams, including a technical team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) and a cyber team, have been mobilised to assist in the investigation.

Investigation Underway and Initial Findings

The investigation is currently focused on identifying the individual responsible for the threats. According to Bhullar, preliminary findings have not established a direct connection between the accused and Lawrence Bishnoi or his gang. The SSP suggested that the use of the gangster’s name may have been intended purely to instil fear.

Reports suggest that Manoj Kumar Arya, the Superintendent of Roshnabad Jail, believes the threats may have arisen following an incident involving a female inmate named Sheela. Allegedly, she had misbehaved with a female deputy jailor and was reprimanded for her conduct. This incident reportedly prompted a reaction from a person claiming to be her husband, who subsequently initiated contact with the jail superintendent.

On September 8, Himanshu, who is alleged to be Sheela’s husband, visited the jail and later sent multiple threatening messages via WhatsApp to Arya. These messages reportedly included explicit threats to his life, alongside references to the ‘Lawrence group from Punjab’. Following the alarming communications, Arya took immediate action by contacting the SSP and providing a written complaint that led to the police registration of the FIR.

Law Enforcement Response and Future Actions

As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials remain vigilant in their efforts to apprehend the accused. The involvement of specialised teams points towards a commitment to addressing the seriousness of the threats made against the jail superintendent.

With various technical resources and cyber investigation techniques being employed, authorities aim to gather further evidence and details about the individual who issued the threats. Bhullar’s statements reflect an ongoing priority to ensure the safety of jail personnel, particularly given the claimed association with a well-known gangster.

Authorities are aware of the potential implications this incident may have on the security within the prison system and are actively working to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The situation remains a priority for local police, and updates on the investigation are anticipated as efforts intensify to resolve the matter efficiently.
