Petition Seeks Ban on Manoj Bajpayee’s Netflix Film “Ghooskhor Pandat”

The CSR Journal Magazine

A petition has been submitted in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release of the upcoming Netflix film titled “Ghooskhor Pandat”, starring Manoj Bajpayee. The petitioner has raised objections to the film’s title, claiming that it is offensive towards the Brahmin community.

The phrase “Ghooskhor Pandat”, which can be translated to “Bribed Priest” or “Corrupt Pandat”, has sparked controversy due to its perceived derogatory reference to a specific community. The plea argues that the title portrays Brahmins in a negative light and hurts religious sentiments.

Allegations of Community Insult

The petition argues that the use of the word “Pandat” alongside a term like “Ghooskhor” equates to defaming and stereotyping the Brahmin community. The petitioner has urged the court to issue directions against the film’s release or at least mandate a change in its title to ensure that no particular religious or social group is misrepresented or disrespected.

The matter has been brought before the Delhi High Court, where it is expected to be heard in the coming days. The petitioner has also called upon the court to examine whether the film obtained necessary approvals and certifications in light of the alleged objectionable content.

Film Yet to Be Released on Netflix

“Ghooskhor Pandat” has not yet been released on the Netflix platform. The legal action comes ahead of the film’s scheduled premiere, though the confirmed release date has not been officially announced by the streaming platform.

Manoj Bajpayee, a National Award-winning actor, plays the lead role in the film. Promotional material and trailers for the project have not been widely circulated, and further details about the storyline or characters are still under wraps.

Court Hearing Awaited

As the controversy takes legal shape, the Delhi High Court is expected to review the merits of the petition, including whether the film’s title breaches any legal or constitutional provisions regarding public order or religious sensitivity.

No official response has yet been issued by Netflix, the film’s producers, or the actors involved. Regulatory authorities such as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) have not made any public statements on the issue so far.

The matter remains under legal consideration, and updates will follow pending the court’s decision on the plea seeking suspension or modification of the film’s title.
