The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has officially launched the ‘DAANVEER’ initiative, which invites contributions from the public, organisations, and donors to bolster digital infrastructure in rural areas. This initiative aims to strengthen digital governance and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.

Overview of the DAANVEER Initiative

The DAANVEER programme is a grassroots-focused Computer Crowdsourcing Initiative that allows individuals and organisations to directly donate desktop computers to verified Gram Panchayats. This process is facilitated through a user-friendly and transparent technology-driven mechanism, designed to simplify the donation process.

The initiative acts in conjunction with existing government-supported programmes, such as the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), further leveraging public involvement to enhance digital governance efforts in rural communities.

How Citizens Can Participate

Through the Meri Panchayat App, citizens can access a list of Gram Panchayats verified by their respective State Governments that are in need of desktop computers. Users have the option to either support their local village Panchayat or choose from other eligible Gram Panchayats.

By selecting the “Donate Computer” option, donors are securely redirected to DigiHaat, a digital marketplace enabled by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This platform eliminates the need for separate registration, automatically populating the delivery address and recipient information of the selected Panchayat to streamline the donation process, thereby minimising manual effort involved.

Features of the Donation Process

Donors can select standard computer bundles that meet predefined technical specifications and make digital payments while tracking their donation at every stage. This includes monitoring the journey from confirmation through dispatch to delivery and final acknowledgement.

Once the Gram Panchayat Secretary confirms the receipt of the donation, contributors receive a digitally generated Certificate of Appreciation. This layer of transparency ensures that every step of the donation process is visible and verifiable for all parties involved.

Impact on Gram Panchayats

A donated computer through the DAANVEER initiative significantly enhances the capability of Gram Panchayats to utilise digital governance tools for effective planning, financial management, record-keeping, and delivering services to citizens. The initiative also opens avenues for citizens abroad, including the Indian diaspora, philanthropic organisations, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners to engage in the development of digital infrastructure in their native regions.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj aims for the DAANVEER initiative to grow into a national movement, fostering digitally empowered Panchayats across the country. As of August 27, 2026, the initiative reports a total of 75 donations, indicating a positive trend in public engagement.
