The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) recently celebrated its 66th Foundation Day in New Delhi, emphasising the future direction of school education. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that revised textbooks for Classes 10 to 12 are currently being developed in what he described as “mission mode.”

According to Joshi, the updated textbooks for lower classes, specifically Classes 1 to 9, have already been launched, aligning with the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF). “NCERT plays a pivotal role in shaping a Viksit Bharat by fostering skilled and globally responsible individuals through quality education,” he stated, underlining the importance of these revisions.

The minister also mentioned ongoing efforts in developing a solid foundation through the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage 2022 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023. The introduction of these revisions is a part of a broader initiative to modernise educational resources and approaches.

Incorporating AI and Technological Advancements

Joshi highlighted the necessity for NCERT to adapt to the rapid developments in artificial intelligence, indicating that AI has swiftly integrated into daily life over the past two years. He remarked that it is essential for textbooks and curricula to evolve so that students can engage with AI confidently and responsibly.

Moreover, he emphasised the importance of parental involvement in children’s technology usage. Parents must be made aware to effectively guide and monitor their children’s interactions with these tools, fostering a responsible approach to technology.

In addition, the minister called for an enhancement of NCERT’s research capabilities and a more effective use of technology, all while prioritising the mental well-being of students. He also addressed the organisation’s commitment to multilingual education, stating that textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 are being created in all 22 languages recognised in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, along with materials in 121 Indian languages, which includes 93 tribal languages.

New Facilities and Educational Initiatives Unveiled

During the Foundation Day celebrations, Joshi inaugurated several facilities aimed at enhancing educational methodologies. This includes a Robotics Learning Centre, a Translation Lab, and an upgraded television studio. Additionally, a new complex named Gate No. 2 and a theme park were officially opened to augment the learning infrastructure.

The event also featured the unveiling of a coffee-table book titled Flora and Fauna at NCERT and an exhibition that showcased various educational initiatives such as Jaadui Pitara, PM eVIDYA, DIKSHA, and eJaadui Pitara. These initiatives aim to enrich the learning experience and leverage technology effectively.

In his address, Joshi recognised that India’s youthful demographic is a vital asset, not only for the nation but also globally. He reiterated that providing quality and future-ready education is central to achieving the broader goals of the Viksit Bharat mission. The commitment to educational excellence is viewed as essential for equipping the younger generation for the challenges ahead.
