Noida Airport Opening: Farmers Behind the Project Join Historic First Flight

The CSR Journal Magazine

Noida International Airport in Jewar is commencing flight operations on Monday with its first service arriving from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, expected to touch down at 8.05 am. This move marks a significant milestone for the region, offering direct air connectivity to multiple destinations. The return flight, operated by IndiGo as flight 6E-2279, is scheduled to depart Noida at 6.55 pm and arrive back in Lucknow at 8 pm.

Among the inaugural passengers are 172 farmers who contributed their land for the airport project. They are set to travel to Lucknow accompanied by local MLA Dhirendra Singh, to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and express their appreciation for the developmental project. This initiative underscores the role these farmers played in facilitating the airport’s establishment.

The initial flights from Noida International Airport will connect Jewar with key cities including Lucknow and Bengaluru, forming part of an expanding network aimed at enhancing travel options. The airport is also preparing for its first arrivals on the same day as operations begin.

Future Prospects and Capacity Targets

As Noida International Airport prepares for its grand opening, Vice Chairman Christoph Schnellmann has indicated an ambitious goal of managing five million passengers within the first year. Plans are also in place for long-term capacity, with aspirations to handle up to 70 million travellers annually. The introduction of these services is anticipated to greatly alleviate current passenger reliance on flights operating through Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport or road travel.

While the inaugural flight is set to operate on Monday, ongoing regular services on this route are expected to commence shortly thereafter. The new airport is seen as an important development to improve travel efficiency between Noida and Lucknow, bolstering regional connectivity.

Officials have confirmed that significant figures including Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and Chief Secretary SP Goyal are likely to travel on this first flight, with all seats having been sold out for this initial service. This high demand indicates strong local interest in the new travel options offered by the airport.

Security Measures in Place

In anticipation of the launch, authorities have implemented comprehensive security protocols at Noida International Airport. A multi-layered security system has been established, featuring artificial intelligence-based surveillance and the presence of approximately 1,030 personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force. Additionally, UP Police has opened a dedicated airport police station to assist with security operations.

The deployed police team consists of one inspector, one senior sub-inspector, twenty head constables, thirty-three constables, and five women constables. Enhanced monitoring of the airport area and runway will be facilitated through a network of high-resolution CCTV cameras equipped with facial recognition capabilities and tools for behaviour analysis and the automatic detection of suspicious activities.

Moreover, specialised dog squads have been assigned to the airport along with a firefighting unit, a medical emergency response team, and a quick reaction team to ensure passenger safety. As the inaugural flight from Lucknow is poised to arrive on Monday, all necessary security measures and operational protocols are being finalised to ensure a seamless experience for travellers.
