Newlywed Woman Accused of Poisoning Mother-in-Law, Theft in Alwar Before Fleeing

The CSR Journal Magazine

Alwar, a city in Rajasthan, has become the scene of a startling crime involving a newly married woman named Rekha Kaur, who is accused of poisoning her mother-in-law just a month after her wedding. The alleged incident has left a profound impact on her husband, Vikramjeet Singh, and his family, who are grappling with the aftermath. Vikramjeet married Rekha on May 26, 2025, during a ceremony held at a Gurudwara, an event that reportedly cost over five lakh rupees. Just prior to their marriage, on May 9, 2025, the couple entered into a court-approved agreement for a live-in relationship based on assurances provided by Rekha and her aunt, Pinki Kaur, regarding the finalization of Rekha’s divorce from her previous husband. However, it has now come to light that these assurances were misleading, as Rekha remained married and had two children from her former relationship. Following the wedding, her behavior reportedly began to change.

Details of the Alleged Crime

On June 23, 2025, Rekha is said to have mixed a toxic substance, phenyl, into a khichdi dish served to her mother-in-law, resulting in the latter’s hospitalization. During this chaos, Rekha reportedly stole jewellery worth several lakh rupees, including gold and silver necklaces, bangles, and rings, along with cash amounting to 30,000 rupees. She then allegedly fled the family home, leaving her husband and in-laws in disbelief.

Past Patterns of Deceptive Behavior

As investigations progressed, authorities uncovered that Rekha had a history of similar deceptions, allegedly orchestrated with the help of her aunt Pinki Kaur from Sirsa, Haryana. It was reported that Pinki had cautioned Vikramjeet, warning him that he had no grounds to confront Rekha and that she would employ the same tactics in future relationships. Initially, Vikramjeet’s requests for police assistance did not yield results. He formally lodged a complaint at the Aravali Vihar police station on July 14, 2025, but his concerns were not addressed immediately. Consequently, he resorted to legal channels to seek justice against both Rekha and her aunt.

Personal Testimony from the Victim

In a statement provided by Vikramjeet, he expressed that Rekha had convinced him she could navigate the legal complexities surrounding her past in order to facilitate their marriage. He stated, “I trusted her completely. Everything changed within weeks. The poisoning, the theft, the lies, it was all premeditated.” Authorities have verified that Rekha and her aunt have allegedly been involved in a series of fraudulent activities, targeting men across both Haryana and Rajasthan. The investigation is ongoing, and police have indicated that action against the accused will be taken following the court proceedings. This troubling incident has sent ripples through the Alwar community, shedding light on the severe ramifications of deceit in personal relationships.
